A Kunthite family home

The rough canyon wall is pited with caverns, but each of them is carefully sealed with an inward-swinging wooden door. A small hole a few feet above the door on the inside allows for ventilation. The canyon is in fact a town, a town of people who don't bother with stairs or even ladders. They have enough dexterity to overpower that need.

Purpose / Function

This is a private living space common underground in Kunth.

Design

Those who live in these rooms are Nargoli, a dexterous race that loves climbing. They don't have stairs into their homes because they don't need them, though foreigners are lowered down on a rope. The walls are smooth and round with carefully cut panels of differently-colored stone. The ceilings are natural rocks worn down with careful craftsmanship to remove any stalactites that might fall on unsuspecting people. The kitchen isnear the front of the house. Flat slabs of stone fitted into the wall rest on top of wooden cabinets. None of the tables are higher than a few inches off the floor. Cushions serve as chairs here. The tv is mounted to a natural indentation in the rock. The couches and beds are made of a spongy material which Nargoli know as fungus that grows on lead plant matter.

Entries

The entrance to the front door is a wooden panel, but the rest of the house is sectioned off by sheets of hanging beads that sway with the air currents around them. The bathroom is the only exception. Its entrance is blocked with a much more tightly fitted wooden panel.

Sensory & Appearance

The earthy scent of moss mingles with the musty aroma of well-worn stone. A slight whistle of air indicates where the ventilation is. There is little need for AC or heating underground in a place so near the equator. The earth absorbs heat and shuts out the cold. A few toys and drawings are strewn around. Some are of more broadly accepted pretty things such as flowers and butterflies, but there are images and toys of bats and colorful fungi too. Softly glowing moss provides just enough light to walk by when all other lights are turned off. Most of the furniture is either generic big-name brands or made of a strange material that isn't quite wooden.

Denizens

The Nargoli live in these places, creatures with nimble fingers and toes just as long and dexterous. They are an underground culture and keep to themselves. The country of Kunth is mostly made of these dwelling places, making it difficult for foreigners to live here. Those that do have earned the trsut of the people. Kunthites find beauty in odd things, the flicker of a string that a luminous bug let down, the fuzzy texture of a mold that grows on boulders in a very specific few caverns, the spread wings of a bat and how their veins faintly stripe the membranes. The most beautiful underground wonders are natural crystal caves.

Contents & Furnishings

Most of the furniture is either crafted from stone and fungus or squired from some large manufacturer capable of sending the packages over. Most of the food i the house will be fungus and mold based. Some will have side-dishes of exotic meats that someone happened to find while looking for food.. Some eill purchase frozen meat from elsewhere, but that is looked down upon. The clothing is either fast-fashion, artificial fibers or fungus membranes carefully dried and treated for optimal flexibility. All electronics will draw from magical batteries and sources rather than traditional power lines. Under no circumstances are Kunthites going ot alow big names to drill out their homes for mining.

Valuables

Many Nargoli are very pragmatic. They will not often have trinkets in their home that gather dust in a corner or on display. They rather collect jewelry and clothes. The most valuable thing in homes such as this will likely be a few rins with high-quality gems in them or a bag made from some exotic material.

Hazards & Traps

Most homes are hard to get to, and an earthquake can collapse more than a few at any moment.

Special Properties

Most homes have running water piped along the walls of the canyon, embedded between layers and in crevices. Some run through natural caves but very few have pipes run straight through the rock. Most air ducts join in a vertical tunnel directly to the surface. Some homes that face the outdoors have ducts directly above the door. The bathrooms lead to tunnels drilled to a specified area at the deepest part of the settlement where it is then magically incinerated and disposed of.

Architecture

Outside, there is a small ledge where people can stand and talk briefly before entering. The walls of the entrance are barren rock, smoothed out but with obvious tool marks. The interior is a careful combination of colored tiles and natural rck making it a rather freeform but rounded area.
