The Grottine

Little can be found of the Grottine culture outside of their structures. It is thought that they are an ancient race, one of the first, and that they were deeply in tune with the magic of the world. This has been deducted because, when harvested, the crystals that grow from places amoung the now feral Grottine still hold a magical energy that can be harvested. All that is known from the culture of the Grottine is that they were a very static species. They did not spread far from what is concidered their origin, instead expanding and digging their home deeper, making their way through tunnels to deeper caverns and dark holes. Some people speculate that they may have never seen the surface, in the little art that survives there is no depiction of anything recognisable on the surface today.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Looks vary from specimin to specimin. Though most are broadly built and are usually bipedal in stature. All have strange crystals growing from them in varying areas. Colouration also varies.

Genetics and Reproduction

It is unclear how the Grottine would have once reproduced, and it is unclear still. It is thought that they sometimes sprout from the Azlyð.

Ecology and Habitats

Under the Azdari Flats, in the twisting cave systems that are mineral rich and full of magic crystals. Whether the Grottine consume the crystaline matter or minerals or both is unknown. Speculation has been made that what makes the Grottine crystals remain magic after harvest and the natural crystals mundane is the consumsption of them by the Grottine.

Dietary Needs and Habits

It is widely thought that the Grottine consume the natural crystals in the caverns under the Azdari Flats.

History

Mostly unknown, it is thought that they never left the underground and that they started at a specific origin point underground, it is thought that the city of Autumn is that pointm and that they spread out from there.
