Varenguul

The gateway to the world

Varenguul has always been a hub of travelers and visitors to Granduul. What started as a lawless haven for pirates has retained that sense of competition and greed as the main site of trade and travel for Granduul.

Government

No formal governing structure rules over the city. The main merchant houses have built out the infrastructure through necessity. Erecting structures, walls, and docks to receive, store, and sell their goods to the populace. They enforce as much order as is necessary to protect their own interests. The most reliable way to ensure protection of your property is to be a vendor involved with any of the merchants.

Defences

The city has a whole has no large scale defenses but instead the ruling merchant companies have built their own dwellings and storage locations forming small citadels around the city. Admittance to these citadels are granted only to people in good standing with the respective companies. City blocks are also patrolled by company guards who's job it is to protect the suppliers and vendors that do business with the different companies. This has long been the standard method of gaining protection.

Industry & Trade

Nearly all goods and materials that enter Granduul pass through Varenguul as the island has few natural resources other than trees, stone, and monsters. Finely crafted clothes, and furniture are brought in for the wealthy, and rare items are brought in from throughout The Scatterback Sea used by sages for casting of spells. Industry has been experiencing a boom over the past several hundred years. As trade of whole finished goods has been overtaken by importing of raw materials used by the growing pool of craftsman, industry of weapons and armor have begun to rival that of the northern city of --havens crest--.

Infrastructure

The main infrastructure is dependent on the sloped geography Varenguul was built upon. Things like artificial platforms that allow the buildings to sit level as well as placing level courtyards upon the sharp grade of the hillside.
