The Hollow
The Hollow is a large habitable subterrainian area inside Ghala. It's elevation varies from a few hundred feet to several thousand feet below the surface. Some caves have entrances to The Hollow and there are several fissures that allow access to and from as well.
Geography
The Hollow's geography ranges from cave like terrain, to moss and fungi covered wilds, and oceans of lava. Very few areas get sunlight, prohibiting the growth of most plants that rely on photosynthesis for food.
Tempratures in The Hollow are usually cool, ranging on average from 30 to 65 degrees. Though in areas with geothermal activity the temprature is extremely high.
Ecosystem
Most life in The Hollow has evolved to live with little to no sunlight. Fungi and moss dominate areas with moisture.
Fauna & Flora
The Hollow contains a diverse biosphere, with many species of plants and animals callin it home despite the area's unorthodox living conditions. Moss and fungi dominate the areas of The Hollow that have sufficient moisture. Fearsome predators like the Mantodea and Death Rattles live here, as well as herbivores like the Thoqqua and Giant Tardigrades. Some species of dinosaurs call The Hollow home as well.
A few sapient species are native to The Hollow as well, namely the Anthallid, Fire Newts and Rukkari
Natural Resources
The Hollow is rich in many resources, including coal, oil, adamantine, uranium-235, and titanuim.
History
The Hollow has existed and been habitable for as long as Ghala itself has been. Though very little of this history is known by those in the surface.
During the First Draconic Crusade, an elven exodus occurred as people tried to escape the Draconic Imperium. Those who weren't willing to make a cross ocean trip headed to caves and went as deep as they could. Many found The Hollow and settled down there. Over time, their bodies changed and evolved to better suit their new home, thus becoming the drow.
The drow immediately set to exterminate the other sapient species of The Hollow, seeing them as repulsive. They successfully forced the Rukkari to extinction, and continue to wage a perennial war with the anthallid and fire newts.
