Mantodea (man-tow-dee-uh)

The Mantodea is an invasive insectoid creature originally native to The Hollow. Mantodea spread across Iyass as a result of a large fissure in the earth that opened up during a massive earthquake. Mantodeas are highly aggressive and will attack most creatures it finds.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Mantodea have 4 legs, 2 arms with small pincers, and a tail that is capable of shooting potent acid at it's victims. A mantodea's jaw is defined by is sharp, pointed mandibles. Their bodies are covered in hard chitin.

Ecology and Habitats

In the Hollows mantodea are apex predators that inhabit rural areas. On the surface, they can be found in forests near roads or trails hoping to ambush any unsuspecting travellers.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Abundantly found in The Hollow.
Not uncommon in northern Iyass, but fairly common in Southern Iyass.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Mantodea have 4 eyes that can very easily see long distances in total darkness. However, they are ill-suited to areas with bright lights.

Mantodea are considered an invasive species outside of The Hollow. Some governments are offering rewards for killing them.
