Materials and volunteers
The materials used where numerous magical measuring orbs, magic cristals and several magic and enchanted items. There are also one thousand five hundred and seventy three volunteers, where eight hundred and twenty three were nullers, five hundred and ninety seven were users and fifty three mages. We also had access to the census of the Empire, where every person has assigned his magical status as nuller, user or mage.
Methods of study
The volunteers where asked about their bloodline to the farthest point they can remember, as well as in which region they lived, and have a bit of prove so we can see if certain lineage or region characteristic have any influence in the magic of a person.
The backgrounds of the volunteers are varied from peasants from towns and villages, to some of the nobles of the capital, including the one of the princes.
After acquiring this information, the different volunteers were separated in different groups and were subjected to use their magic, magic items and enchanted items of different types. This was done in order to try to all the common or different characteristics, is they can be only be seen in one of the three categories or in all of them.
Then from the volunteers, we asked for volunteers to conduct a small set of experimental experiments and spell that could be very dangerous and risk could be high, as those have not been tried before. Thirty seven people volunteer for these experiments.
The experiments that the objective to amplify or hamper, even inhibit, the use of magic of a human with the intention to see if a nuller could become a users, or if a user could become a nullers. No mages participated on these experiments.
Results
It was found that the region where one lives does not have a correlation, or causes higher magical abilities. It has been found that currently the nobles are the ones that have the highest ammount of mages in their strata, while the peasantry is the one that has more nullers in their strata.
Thanks to the census, we could determine that mages marrying to mages and having descendant have the highest probabilies of the descendant to be also mages, but there is chances that it could also be a user, but there is no instance of a nuller. If we go mages and user, the descendant can be a mage or user with a wide range of probabilities, in some instances mages are more probable while in others the users are more probable, and no instances on nullers. In the user and user descendants, mages uncommon or rare, and users were the most commom, with some instances of nullers. When we get to the user and nuller descendants, nullers are more prevalent on the descendants, with no instances of mages. And then the nuller and nuller, where the majority of the descendant is nullers with some uncommon and rare instances of users.
With this information we can say with a degree of certainty that lineages affect the magical abilities of a human.
In terms of characteristics, nullers are the most restricted, they cant cast spells or enchantments, use magic items, and are limited to the use of enchanted items. They cant regulate the enchantment, as they cannot interact with it with magic, so the enchantment effect is always inactive when the nuller is not using it, and always active while using it.
Users, can use magic and enchanted items, as well as regulating the enchantment giving them a wider range of options, but cant cast spells or enchaments themselves with some exceptions. Though there are a wide variety of differencies, which is the cause we divide the users in three categories. Low-end users who cannot regulate enchanments but cannot use magic items. Second-rate users who can modulate the enchantments and use magic items. Lastly is First-rate users which have the same characteristics are second-rate, but can also cast lesser spells or enchantments.
Mages on the other hand can use enchanted and magical items, as well as use spells and enchantments. There are differences in the same similar as with the users, but is harder to draw a clear line, as it is not if they posses an addicional ability or not, is rather the extent or limit of that ability, which in this case are mana output and mana storage. There are mages that will have a low storage of mana, but great output, so they can use small and lesser spells somewhat fast, while others have great storages of mana, but low output, allowing them to cast great and powerfull spells but then they have to spend time replenishing their mana. While each end of the spectrums can have it's advantages and disadvantages, a balance mage that can consistenly do spells for a longer periods is more desirable in some situations. Rarely the world of Gelathur has seen mages with both great output and mana reservoirs.
We can also say with certainty that nullers have the lowest output of mana, and lack mana storage and control of mana, which is what limit them. Users have a low outout of mana, which is why only first-rate users can use lesser magic, the low-rate, lack control, thats why they can regulate. As for mana storare is it very limited.
Mages have mana outputs and mana storages that can vary greatly from one mage to another.
Now in terms of "changing" a nuller to mage or user or viceversa, it is determined that It's not possible.
But in terms of amplifying the abilities one already has is possible. Magic cristals act as a portable mana storage, and depends on the control of the mage to be able to extract the mana from the magic cristal to then use it on a spell or enchantment. It was not possible to alter the natural mana ouput of an individual.
