Fox People Species in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Fox People

The so called fox-morph is one of uncommon beastmen morph - while relatively rare when compared to most common morphs, each of them still exists in numbers big enough to actually have its own settlements or even smaller countries. Due to their generally low numbers they still rarely make up a significant part of various beastmen warhosts, rather than that forming small, dedicated units.   Due to their general cunning and smarts - coupled with less than great physical might - they tend to excel in magic and shamanism, forming a reclusive settlements among other beastmen while considering others a bunch of barbarians.   They were created by the mix between old Meta-Beastmen and simple foxes, through some sort of ancient rituals, now sadly forgotten. It is unknown why they were actually one of the most common morph chosen by now extinct proto-beastmen.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanoid, with two hands, two legs and head. They are, however, heavily dependent in terms of their looks at how far their morph settled in. On one extreme we have almost normal humans with only some outward characteristics of the foxes - like ears (they tend to be the sort of a marker of a morph), slight changes to teeth, some improvement to senses. On the other extreme, there are practically antropomorphised foxes, with their humanoid posture (and intelligence) being their only major difference from common foxes.

Genetics and Reproduction

With other beastmen regardless of their subspecie. Subspecie inheritance is linked to gender. Pregnancy circa nine months long, not really different than humans (with exception of slightly increased chance for multiple pregnancies). They are also notably more resistant to most typical genetic defects, but the difference is at best a ten percent or so.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most of them lives on Lana, but there are few remaining bloodlines living as either slaves or peasants in Karadia, mostly in northwestern Arrica and in Vestiria. Second in number are foxmen population in Bharata Kanda and various less developed areas especially in Native Sea and Northern Sea.

Average Intelligence

Intelligent. Simply intelligent. Foxmen average cunning and wits are above human in a rather significant way. Their averagely intelligent members are a decent magicians... while their best surprisingly often end up as grey eminences ruling over various barbarian warlords from behind their backs.   They are also known for being notoriously backstabbing individualist. While it doesn't mean that there are no trustworthy ones, most of them simply has such tendencies, which is later reinforced by the society in which most of them live in. Those from Imperium are known to be much less backstabbing.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Improves eyesight, good night vision and good sense of smell. Also a sixth sense that allows them to sense where the north is (works in unknown for locals way, while in fact it simply allows them to sense magnetic fields). Other than that they are pretty normal in that matter.

Civilization and Culture

Relationship Ideals

Temporary unions, with giving birth to a child and raising it in mind. This is, similarly to their chronic backstabbing syndrome, a matter of small natural tendencies coupled with certain sociological pressure. When it's gone, foxmen tend to fare decently in stable relationship, even if have slightly less chance of remaining in them for life. p/justify]
