Alseides Species in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Alseides

One of most common (and most tame) type of Ondines, being also one of the wild daemons that are so common that it's hard to find people who never saw one in their life (at least those living in villages, cities are traditionally more deprived of wild magic, long ago tamed by civilizations).   While common, they aren't particularly strong. They can be a trouble when agitated due to their numbers, magic and creatures they can employ, but they are considered beings under imperial protection due to their usefulness and lack of hostility towards mortals. Unless provoked, naturally.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Manifest as beautiful maidens, with blond hair, blue eyes, and rather... airy clothing. They also tend to have flowers in their hairs, that actually seem to grow there. They are also often accompanied by a various 'beneficial' creatures normally inhabiting fields and meadows, for example bees and ladybugs.

Genetics and Reproduction

With mortal men. Their exact species doesn't matter. With humans more alseides and devians are born, with other species more alseides and particularly pretty mortals of their father's species. The pregnancy normally takes nine to twelve months. It is believed, however, that alseides decide whether they want to have a child and whether it will be a daemon or mortal. Because of that they avoid the risk of overpopulation, easily keeping their population in check.   As all nymphs they mostly have children with men they love. They almost never decide to have them with man they 'simply' sleep with (whether they are promiscuous or strictly monogamous is individual thing).

Ecology and Habitats

They mostly inhabit meadows and cultivated fields, especially in summer and during harvests. They are known to dance on the field at day, while having a penchant for seducing men in the evening. Of course, with them being nymphs, it rarely leads anywhere, it's mostly done for fun and in most cases is simple flirting. In most cases there is an unspoken agreement before people of the villages and nearby alseides on not going any farther with married men.   Despite their... disruptive activities they are considered a servants of gods, strongest of them often serving as guardian deities of villages, while having a beneficial effect on lands they reside in. They boost fertility of the land, while also making fields more resistant to Locust's curses. A single alseid improves agriculture production of her domain by around 5%, while whole group of them (as most lower grade nymphs they are rather communal creatures) improves fields output by 30-40%.
