Air Magic in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Air Magic

Air Magic is the least spectacular school of elemental magic. Magicians that begin to learn air magic won't find firepower of fire magic, impenetrable defense of stone magic, or precision and penetrative capabilities of water magic. Instead, they will find a much more subtle spells, capable of manipulating air, depriving their enemies of it, push them back and hold and distance, control flightpath of projectiles, or even make shortterm tornadoes... where subtlety ends.   Air magic has lowest power requirements among elemental magics, instead requiring a sharp mind, and one very good in thinking really fast - most of air magic spells often require constant adjustments to keep working, with air permanently trying to return to its normal state.

Subschools of Air Magic

Force Magic [SP] - First subschool of air magic, that works in a way similar to Pressure Magic (a subschool of Water Magic. Mage uses power to compress or decompress air... even in split second. Effects can be disastrous. There are also a significant group of spells that uses the changes in air pressure to manipulate temperature, making it a quite useful type of magic.   Blade Magic [SP] - Second subschool of air magic, that uses much more advanced version of mechanism behind Force Magic to form compressed air into blades and projectiles, that can be compared to blade's edge without a blade. Their disadvantage is that they are easy to disperse, and actually hitting target tends to be hard and requires fast thinking. On the other hand, the effects tend to be rather impressive, with many spells 'programmed' so that the projectiles decompress after hitting the target.
