Abyssal Lord Species in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Abyssal Lord

If one were to believe the occult scriptures, Abyssal Lords are former deities - guardian beings of the cities, deified elementals or nymphs ruling parts of the world - that went insane under the influence of Pandaemonium. After this happened they were brought into the Pandaemonium itself, this transcendental plane of insanity and evil. Where they were remade in something different.   Most of them hails from the Abyss, due to it being responsible for the biggest number of deities to fall from grace like that. Because of that, it's very rare to see one of them that doesn't serve Discord.   Each Abyssal Lord is a mighty combatant, capable of going toe to toe with living guardian deities. Few of them can theoretically overwhelm a demigod. They are a terrible threat, whose incursion into the imperial soil always meets at least local mobilization of all imperial assets and a total war until it is banished or sealed. The exact number of Abyssal Lords under the service of Pentagram is unknown, but is estimated in hundreds.   Their name comes from the fact that they are most often encountered in Abyss, with most of them theoretized to be ancient Karathi deities that went insane due to Pandaemonium takeover of the lower layers of Labirynth.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Each Abyssal Lord is a towering warrior clad in pitch-black armour covered in most terrible and blasphemous symbolic, that can drive a weaker beings into madness simply by being seen. They have at least two and a half meter of height, and while being humanoid at the first glance, they are in fact more like a mockery of it. Their limbs can bend in wrong places, their movements almost always feel simply wrong, and then can manifest additional limbs if they like so.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Overwhelming majority of them seems to run whole empires and civilizations dedicated to Pentagram, especially in the Abyss, where they can be seen as being similar to guardian deities.   At least few resides in the Rift, at least judging from the number of them accompanying Synkardians during their invasion on Alvaena. The rest are most likely in Pentagram, from time to time amassing great armies of Aberrants and servile daemons of Pentagram and leading an incurions into Real World.

Average Intelligence

Despite being clear omnicidal maniacs (not to mention slaves of Pentagram practically devoid of any feelings of resistance) they are also much more intelligent than mortals, bordering on omniscience when it comes to the range of detection of their sixth sense.   They can be defeated only because rules of Great Game allow it, with most of their incursions ended by either their succesful subjugation by Chosen Ones or imperial killteams... or by usage of mass destruction spells.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

As all creatures of Pentagram it can sense things via certain type of a sixth sense that allows it to sense surroundings and detect all living things. It makes blinding them impossible and ambushing very hard. It can also sense magic, and from an even longer distance.   As one of the most powerful servants of Pentagram, its range of detection is at least several kilometres long, making ambushing it plain impossible. It doesn't even possess other senses, since its sixth sense is all that it needs.
