Abyssal Hexcaster Species in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Abyssal Hexcaster

Abyssal Hexcasters are members of a wide family of the Dead hailing from the Abyss, deep beneath the Labirynth. They are believed to originate from the variety of goblin empires in the lowest level of Labirynth, with most of them already being an active worshippers of Pentagram   They are merely one part of a big 'family' of Abyssals, considered a different beings only according to imperial taxonomy. In most cases they form armies (or at least smaller hordes) together with the rest of Abyssals. As most Dead of Pandaemonium they are a relatively small threat to one's sanity (among servants of Pentagram it is left to daemons and aberrants), while remaining a significant threatwhen it comes to bodily harm.   They are also know to particularly fearsome and terrifying combatants, while being essentially fearless. After all, you can't be scared of death if you already died once.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Abyssal Hexcasters manifest in the form of a hangoblin wearing a 'clothing' made from freshly ripped off skin of seemingly random sapient species - they are believed to originate from members of failed and lost expeditions that tried to reach the deeper layers of Labirynth. They also manifest carrying staffs with still beating hearts as a cores, believed to originate in the same place as skin that covers them.

Biological Traits

Sorcerers, well versed in local variant of Doom Magic, known as Abyssal Magic. Most of its hexes cause only mediocre sanity damage, but has a significantly higher chance of causing various mental debuffs, especially fear, confusion and stun. It is essentially a more crowd control variant of typical Doom Magic.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Limited. As Dead hailing from the domain of the Pandaemonium, they are filled with intense, bordeline omnicidal hatred for everything alive and not tainted by their gods. They exist to murder and destroy. The basis of their intellects hails from ther pre-death selves, which weren't the brightest to begin with - Pentagram-worshipping civilizations of lower Labirynth aren't exactly known for their great education.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

As all creatures of Pentagram it can sense things via certain type of a sixth sense that allows it to sense surroundings and detect all living things. It makes blinding them impossible and ambushing very hard. It can also sense magic, and from an even longer distance.
