The Northern Galeric Rail Barony

The great network of pax railways within the Wind-Wracked Vale are ostensibly shared by all the peculiar desert client-kingdoms that survived the collapse of the Burbenni Empire, but no other singular institution in the whole valley claims more time, space, and dominance on the rails than the Northern Galeric Rail Barony (sometimes known as Norther' Galeric, or simply NGR).

Founded in the barony's seat of the grand Norheim mountain city Ven'Prociff prior to the Long Nomaddening, the Northern Garleric Rail Corporation grew to prominence during the Great Norheim Mithrine Rush of 196 ME, with huge operations in mining, shipping, track construction, and rail transit. As demand for the alloy, the component minerals, and their safe transit all spiked, Norther' Galeric grew exponentially, quickly coopting much of the power and importance deigned upon the old city-kingdom by their Burbenni benefactors. By 305 ME, Northern Galeric had subsumed most political and administrative powers of the Ven'Prociff Regency Council in the aftermath of the Final War, as Burbenni imperial support and influence waned to nothing but a memory. The Vanderhills, the merchant family that held control over Norther' Galeric's chief directorate decided to assume the title of Barony, despite the fact that politically, they were no longer beholden to any other entity. But the rail barons, as they came to be known, embraced the title for its newfound ambiguity amongst the populace; for what was a baron without a king, or an emperor? The Vanderhills eventually installed puppet princes (as did most of the other oligarchic rail powers in the region) to assuage rebellion and shirk responsibility for those whom they ultimately ruled, similar to what the Burbenni had done, but ultimately everyone came to see the real authority was projected by the Rail Baronies themselves, symbolized by their mighty Rail Titans.

The Northern Galeric Rail Barony claims control over the entire north of the Galeric desert, stretching from the edge of the Free City of Salameer's influence in the west, along the wide southern ranges of the Norheim mountains and all rail lines within 200 miles south of it, including the to The Eastern Edge. The boundless natural resources found buried within the Norheim mountains allow prospection and mining of both Mithrine and Maentium in massive quantities; having over a dozen monumental facilities for their refinement and smelting means the Northern Galeric Rail Barony can produce more rail-grade Paxanium alloy than any other plutocratic player in the entire region. This, combined with their population, size of their military and geographical breadth, asserts the Northern Galeric Rail Barony as the closest thing to a hegemonic power the great desert of Galeria has.

Norther' Galeric is known for their wide range of rail-line offerings for transit, rent or purchase. From meagre but absurdly affordable wind-canoes, hand cars and sail-bogeys; to more impressive sail-carriages, rail sloops and wind-wagons; to full-sized Rail-Ships and Wind-Trains, Norther' Galeric has a product for any buyer regardless of their purchasing power. Complimenting their enormous rail product line is access to their extensive Railway Map and Transit Schedule, covering the entirety of the North Highway system and the main lines running between the Ardal plateau in the East and the Gethrheim mountains to the south.

Currency
The Gold Dubloon, an old denomination used by the Burbenni before their ultimate collapse, is still in standard use among the territories, officers and operations of Northern Galeric Rail Barony, as well as the other Rail Baronies and the Free City of Salameer.
Legislative Body
The Ven Prociff Regency Council still exists as nominal representatives to the people of the Norheim mountains and all others that fall under the purview of the Northern Galeric Rail Barony, but their policy making powers are few and any legislation they do pass is subject to revision or veto from the Prince Regent.
Judicial Body
The Ven Prociff Courts of Justice system most often handle cases concerning business disputes and contract law, as most criminal justice is meted out harshly and immediately by the Northern Galeric RailSec Authority or the Ven Prociff Cityguard. The interpretation of higher laws or decisions with far reaching financial implications are almost always co-engineered in secret by the Office of the Rail Baron, in many cases with specific demands from the Rail Baron himself.
Executive Body
The Ven Prociff Prince or Princess Regent nominally and ostensibly rules the City's inhabitants and those within their geographic sphere of influence, with control over the Cityguard and stewardship over the Ven Prociff Courts of Justice, but in actuality they work as a puppet, installed by the plutocratic Northern Galeric Rail Barony. In reality, most power falls within the entities that control the vast coporate-state: the Railsec Authority, the Norther' Galeric Directorate board, and the Office of the Rail Baron (often but not always including the Rail Baron him or herself).
