Notes on the Cataclysm

The Cataclysm Period//     Ley Moon: a supernatural phenomenon where the moon suddenly comes too close to the planet, affecting the leys lines. Here the moon draws up Ley Particles and essentially saps LeyLines dry: depriving the world of magic by 95%.   Cataclysm phenomenon: due to the draining of LeyLines, emergence of a creature [monster] called "Hubris" occurred soon after.   Hubris are extremely hostile monsters who feed on any living creature (mainly mammals) and range from 3 meters in size to 50+ meters in size. They have variations in structure and biology making it difficult to surmise a uniform way to combat them.   With the suppression of all magic E+ tier and up, all arcane derived defenses were rendered useless. Technology became the central force of power in the world as only a small number of countries were able to combat the first wave of Hubris.   **State of the world as of 375 RE, 2 years after "day zero", all countries have signed a non-aggression agreement during a Ryuusan meeting on Oct 373 RE. The majority of states have erected walls in order to keep out Hubris. Hubris now lurk and has taken control of 86% of the worlds open land. Adventuring guilds are converted to Contracting guilds as a result of frontiers becoming extremely hostile.50% (and climbing) of the world's population wiped out**   12 contracting mega-corporations emerged as the majority of the world countries who were previously entirely reliant on magic suddenly needed significant foreign aid. [State of Disaster]. The 12 corporations are:   ArmsCo: who specialize in weapons manufacturing   GroundX: who specialize in minerals and mining   Hitabana: who has royalties in all fields but specialize in chemical production   Rorre: who specializes in Hubris containment   AvaLab: A federally funded research and science corporation whos mission is to study the Hubris and return the world back to pre-cataclysm times. They work heavily with Rorre. (Based on Luxillian Islands)   Upperatus: A medical firm who gained power by aiding countries in need.   Seaton Corp: became central to the trading and regulation of food commerce.   DefCore: research and development of Anti-Hubris gear. The Guild: Establishment and preservation of the old adventuring system. All modern and new adventurers must come here to be enlisted and permitted.   Ryuusan Life-Court: manages trafficking of sentient beings and the flow of refugees. Also plays a major role in wall contraction.   AecSina: arguably one of the most powerful corporations, they specialize in the construction of walls and have played a part in the preservation of a significant portion of the worlds cities. (though 75% of all cities and villages wiped out).   Assault Corp: An army for hire that specializes on the killing of Hubris.           March 376: The Ley Retrieval Space Station, developed by Avalab and co-financed by Camelot, Tokyo, London, and a handful of other states and corporations, was nearing completion and with that the operation to end the cataclysm period started.   377: By this time, 5.785% of the worlds Ley compacity was restored, allowing all magic up to tier D+ and C- to be used. Since there were ley particles back in the world, rare occurrences where magicians were able to utilize their full potential began occurring, albeit spontaneously and briefly.   STATE OF THE WORLD AS OF 378: The non-aggression agreement was voided and the world (social and politically) reverted back to how it was prior to "Day Zero". The only difference now is that magicians above D tier are significantly rarer. The world began to rely less on magic and the role of magicians shifted to that of national and political assets (magicians stopped being the norm and became "special people"). [Ley Retrieval Progress: 13.899%] The Hubris threat has not changed by this time. The factioning of the world [Rivide] occurs.
