As humanity approaches the fourth milennium, things are dark. Earth has been lost to the ABACUS singularity, cut off from the rest of the galaxy through a hasty reaction by central administrators. The Milky Way Galaxy is coming out of a dark age, where shining stars like the planet New Damascus are spearheading scientific research once again.   Vivian Skye of the planet Aurora leaves her insular world for the stars. She dreams of a career and friends. Her initial objective is to complete her internship project, an upgrade on the Extra-Galactic Observatory's artificial intelligence, quIRK.   However, not all is as it seems in the world and Vivian is swept away in wave of intrigue, assassination plots, and must learn to trust the very thing she's been taught to fear most.
