Greymoor
Greymoor was a small village in the south-west of Argoloth Moor in the imperial province of Sarvantus. It was most famous for its temple, which was unusually large for a village of a few hundred inhabitants. It's said that the temple predates the village, and was built in its remote location in defiance of the unforgiving surroundings.
Greymoor was destroyed and its people slaughtered on the second Nanyas of Aakus, 276 IC by Hengel Blackeye after the necromancer discovered the defeat of his ally, Odorrin Daragor.
Ravens Tor
A mile or so outside of Greymoor lies a small iron mine dug into the side of Ravens Tor , a nearby hill. Although not rich enough for any meaningful trade, it was enough to support the local blacksmith, George Gilly, before his death in Selrun 276 IC. Gilly also believed that there was more to the mine than a simple ore deposit. He rarely spoke about this to the other villagers, but it was the reason he chose to site his house and forge on the hillside, rather than within the protection of the village walls. Although he believed there was something under the hill beyond the mine, he never found it. Shortly before George Gilly's death however, his daughter, Eryn, stumbled across a way from the mine to the temple.Greymoor Temple
The temple was among the first buildings constructed in Greymoor, and was built as a symbol of defiance against the harsh and unforgiving landscape. It's strong stone walls have oft times protected the residents when the village has been under attack. Three deities have shrines in the temple, arranged left to right in the following order:- Dran Dorranon: An unpainted, stone relief of a ‘rainbow arch’. It was decorated with depictions of crops and agricultural scenes and topped with a clear crystal.
- Ducarax: A black, carved wooden table stands in front of the symbol of Ducarax carved as a relief into the stone.
- Grinya: A carved and painted wooden wreath of flowers hangs on the wall, with a lit lantern hanging in the centre.
- Aisling Cord (f, long braids, Scottish accent)
- Raymund Frost (m, shaggy hair and big five o’clock shadow, lisp)
- Lief (m, halfling, mutton chops, aggressive temperament, talks quickly and exaggerates) and Andry Boughbeater (f, halfling, wide face with large features)
- Willow Dafling (f, blonde, looks to have more than a touch of elf blood).
- Rethlin Krale (m, human, red hair, late 20s) - he was able to flee before being killed by lizardfolk at The Wyrmskull Henge.
Government
Torrian Wintersun was the sheriff of Greymoor until his death in Selrun 276 IC. Exarch Odorrin Daragor was the acting sheriff before his exposure as an agent of Hengel Blackeye and death at the hands of Pyra Verin, Sayuri Galanodal, Antonio Silverton, Valyn al Marrosh and Lachlan MacKinnon. Imperial officials such as judges and tax collectors occasionally passed through to carry out their work.
Defences
A basic palisade wall surrounded the village, although not the fields. As with all imperial settlements too small to support a town watch, the local sheriff was expected to organise the residents into a militia when necessary.
Industry & Trade
The majority of the residents of Greymoor were subsistence farmers, growing cereals in the surrounding communal fields, vegetables in their gardens and grazing livestock on the moors. Sagh Gazora brewed ale and ran a meagre tavern for the villagers and any travellers passing through. Before his death, George Gilly ran the blacksmith, situated around a mile outside the village on Ravens Tor.
Assets
Greymoor had little beyond it's communal fields and barn.
Guilds and Factions
Greymoor temple was the only noteworthy organisation in the village. The building itself was unusually large for a village temple, boasting shrines dedicated to Dran Dorranon, Ducarax and Grinya.
Architecture
The vast majority of buildings in Greymoor were built of stone collected from the rocky surroundings of Argoloth Moor, and finished with thatched roofs over wooden frames. The notable exception is the larger than normal temple, which was built entirely out of stone.
Geography
Situated on Argoloth Moor, Greymoor was set in a shallow dale where a number of natural springs bubble to the surface. The greater village, including the communal fields carved out of the uncompromising landscape, covered a little over one square mile. On the outskirts is a thin and stunted wood used by the residents as a source of timber. The house of George Gilly, the blacksmith, stands roughly a mile from the centre of the village next to a small iron mine dug into a hillside.
Natural Resources
The majority of residents grew oats and rye in the communal fields, as well as raising sheep, goats, foul and dairy cows. The primary building material was stone which was easily collected from the rugged countryside and rushes for thatch grow along the banks of the streams. A small iron mine is dug out of a hillside around a mile from the village.
