The Metamorphosis of the Soul

Manifestation

Upon its inception, souls are nearly shapeless hues of astral light. They are influenced so heavily by their environments that this hue constantly changes until their body perishes at which point they become either a celestial, demon, or ghost. The choices one makes alters the form of their soul. Those who live their lives in sin will twist their soul into the form of the sin that they most often commit turning them into a demon. Those who live their lives with piety brighten their soul into the form of the virtue that they most often upheld turning them into a celestial. When a person is possessed by demons, the demonic presence strongly influences the choices the possessed person makes by heavily tempting them to commit the sins that the demons represent. This ultimately darkens the soul warping it into another demon upon death. Anyone who undergoes a successful exorcism removes the demons co-inhabiting the body and any influence they had. This brings the soul back to its original hue before it was possessed; however, if the subject is possessed for too long, their soul will be permanently warped by the demon's influence allowing the demons to move on to the next unfortunate soul. It is possible for people who have suffered a full term possession to brighten their souls once again with truly genuine atonement, but this is an exceptionally rare case. Once a person dies, their soul begins to leave their body and depart for the afterlife. Darkened souls immediately pass into hell and are claimed by the devils as slaves while brightened souls pass into heaven to live in bliss for the rest of eternity free of all bodily desires or burdens. Souls that lie closer to the center of the spectrum typically end up in the realm of purgatory where they must ascend the cosmic mountain to attain atonement and pass into heaven. Souls are completely and absolutely indestructible. Not even gods have the means of truly destroying a soul. Demons often use the term "devour your soul", but this is nothing more than a scare tactic. This means that even if a demon or celestial is defeated on Gaia, its soul still exists somewhere in the Great Beyond waiting to enter Gaia again. This means that there is no real way to permanently kill a demon, celestial, or ghost. Even deities have souls and those souls will take the form of a demon or celestial if their bodies are destroyed.
