The Woodland Ravager

Castigors are horrifying murderous monsters. They destroy every ecosystem they inhabit and completely throw the local population into a state of chaos. Castigors claim large amounts of territory that they will guard with almost irrational aggression. They make their nests by literally bashing down an entire 10 acres of woodland to form a makeshift nest. One would think a beast with such a ruthless reputation must be a carnivore, but in truth the castigor is a pure herbivore that stalks victims and murders for sport. Some people believe that such a terror could only be born in the depths of Hell; however, even demons do not murder with the same level of savagery as these Gaia-born monstrosities.

Fighting Style

Castigors fight with absolute ferocity. They will attack just about anything that moves mainly out of pure sport. They have a very sense of smell and can usually smell an invader coming from up to100 yards away. Once they catch a whif of you, it is almost certain that a battle is coming. Their preferred method of attack is charging their victims headfirst with their massive antlers knocking them to the ground before unleashing a barrage of claw attacks. If their target is too close to charge, castigors will grab them with their claws, throw them into the air, and either strike them with their antlers or catch them in their teeth.
Castigors are absolutely fearless and have been known to stand their ground against titanic monsters twice their size. They will usually fight to the death to protect their territory or their young.

Primary Attacks

  • Awesome Blow: Any attack made by the creature can have a knock-back effect. After a successful hit, the target must make an opposed fortitude roll vs the creature's fortitude roll. If it loses, it is knocked back 5ft for every 2 points it loses the roll by. The creature can also choose to knock the target prone instead if they win the roll.
  • Grappling Claws: The creature may now make a special claw attack that can be used to initiate a grapple with an opposed fortitude roll vs the target's fortitude. The claws deal half damage after DR has been calculated.
  • Insistence: Once per round, when your opponent successfully parries your attack, you can attempt an opposed fortitude save to negate your opponent’s parry bonus. Your opponent is unable to perform a riposte against you with that parry attempt and it still counts against their max parries per round.
  • Momentum Charge: When the creature performs a charge action, their attack deals an additional 5 damage.
  • Swift Bite: The creature may expend its swift action to make a bite attack.

How to Fight a Castigor

Being the ruthless beasts that they are, castigors do not have many clear weaknesses. Due to their powerful sense of smell, a vial of Mighty Scent will typically send them running despite their typically fearless nature. Once you toss that vial you better run in the opposite direction as fast as possible, for if you try to aggrivate them while you've got them on the run, no amount of Might Scent will be able to save your from their rage.
Castigors may be absolute powerhouses, but they are still just animals. This means hunting a castigor should be no different than hunting any other large animal. As simple animals, castigors are prone to traps and ranged combat. Their primate-like arms are perfect for smashing and delivering powerful claw attacks, but are incapable of throwing any projectiles with any degree of power or accuracy allowing ranged combatants to unleash a barrage of arrows and bolts into their enemy without fear. If you aren't lucky enough to have Mighty Scent and you have no clear modes of escape, then you better prepare for a brutal fight. Whatever you do, do not attempt to charge a castigor! Charging at a castigor that is already charging at you will allow them to deliver a particularly dangerous blow. Your best hope is to position yourself in a place where they cannot charge you or simply hope they miss.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Castigors have a massive furry humanoid-like body that walks on its knuckles like a gorilla. Their head is similar to that of a goat with massive sharp antlers like a deer. They stand about 20ft tall on their hind legs and about 13ft tall while on their knuckles. Castigors can weight anywhere between 1500-2300lbs. They have massive 8 inch claws on each finger that they can use to slash down trees. Their teeth are primarily flat due to their herbivorous nature, but they are far from harmless. The bite strength of a castigor is comparable to that of a hippopotamus.

Ecology and Habitats

Castigors are an invasive species that can live in a variety of ecosystems. Their thick fur and size allows them to live in extremely cold climates as well as temperate climates; however, one would be hard pressed to find a castigor living in dry or desert climates. Their nests are typically a chaotic amalgamation of broken down trees and deep dug holes. If it looks like a tornado just ran through a section of the forest, you likely just found a castigor nest.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Magical Particles: 160 Panacea, 25 Aether The castigor's bones are extremely dense due to their increased concentration of panacea. This concentration is greatest in their antlers that possess the most panacea for their weight. The rest of a castigor's bones do possess panacea to some degree but they are so heavy that transporting them would cost more than the panacea within them is worth. Like all animals, the castigor's brain cortex possess a small amount of aether and weighs about 10lbs.
