Ataraxia Condition in Gaés (Archived) | World Anvil

Ataraxia

While the world around us and the bounty with which we are, on all sides, surrounded shows that the Wills have created this world as a paradise for us mortals, there is no evidence that they, as my colleague here to the left would argue, that they care for our well-being any more than we care about the ants that crawl underneath our very feet.

Has the good Senator forgotten the Bliss of Bigrass?

— Conversation between X and Y debating the allocation of State funds for the construction of the Temple of the Three Holy Wills

Typically brought on by chewing the dried leaves of bigrass, Bliss is a mental and emotional state marked by a complete removal from physical, mental, and emotional anguish. Officially termed ataraxia for the condition users of bigrass experience, the Bliss has become a common application of magically active materials in the daily lives of many Eudokonians, whether as an evening “pinch of the grass” for working laborers or the cause of an aristocrat’s unintentional starvation in a Bliss Chamber.

Effects

The process of chewing bigrass that has been enchanted opens their senses to the perception of the Summer Fields, the land of the virtuous dead. Through a connection with the Summer Fields, the user begins to feel a detachment from all pain, with short term users still being able to acknowledge the sensation of what would otherwise be painful and long-term users wholly unaware of the sensation.

As an affect brought on by a magical compound, Ataraxia is recognized through the affect it leaves on the affected individual’s aura: golden flecks radiating from the individual and a slight green tint around the edges of the aura.
