Acalian

Acalians are the majority member species of the Acrylian Empire, making up around 44.6%. They are fast, highly intelligent, and good negotiators.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Acalians have four limbs - two legs and two arms - and walk naturally bipedally. They have a moderately complex endoskeleton structure and proportionally large brains.

Genetics and Reproduction

In traditional Acalian gestation, the offspring grows inside the parent for approximately 250 cycles, however if this is inconvenient for the parent, then modern technology allows the offspring to be placed in a manufactured version of the gestation organ instead.
The Acalian Genome has been fully researched, and some limited gene modding is in effect, however it is usually avoided so as to limit possible complications related with gene modding.

Acalians take aproximately 16 - 23 years to fully mature. The average Acalian has matured by age 19.

Ecology and Habitats

Optimal conditions are approximately 22 degrees Centigrade air temperature 35% air humidity and 20% Oxygen concentration.

Average Intelligence

Most are able to complete maths problems such as integration or differentiation. They are also able to hold political opinion and have been observed to be adept at avoiding conflict, both personally and as a civilisation.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Acalians have two optical receptors and two audial receptors. They also have a large nasal canal that fascilitates respiration and smell and a tongue in their mouth that fascilitates taste. They have nerves spanning their skin structure that allow them to feel objects upon touch.

The Talus symbiont is able to survive within this species. Parasites 143 - 158 and 224 have been observed to survive in this species.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

There are no clear distinctions between names given to biological males and biological females. Acalians are given a name at birth consisting of one or two syllables followed by the child suffix, k*n where * is any vowel. They will inherit the surname of one of their parents. It is usually custom for a child to choose their own forename on their 17th birthday, though some will still retain their birth name without the child suffix

The Acrylian Science Foundation, the Imperial Society of Inter-species Relations and the Acrylian Diplomatic Core are all major organisations within the Acrylian Empire attended by many Acalians.

Height is sometimes considered beautiful, but not many more features follow an exact correlation with beauty. Beauty appears to be chaotically associated with traits.

Courtship Ideals

It is usually custom for a couple or group that wish to court to arrange a first meeting together where they will indulge in some form of entertainment together to learn about each other. Once they believed that they have learnt enough about each other, they will begin routinely meeting each other until they feel comfortable sharing habitation.

Relationship Ideals

Acalians usually form binary relationships between two people, but some will form groups of many. It is expected that there will be mutual respect between partners in a relationship.

Acalian ships use both warp and hyperspatial jump drives. They are also experimenting in phase fold drives. Computer technology is extremely common in Acalian life and has made them extremely easy to observe.

Most Acalians are bilingual and are taught to speak both Aluan and Standard Imperial from a young age. It is not uncommon for members of the Diplomatic Core to speak many other languages like Karelian or Straza.

Common Dress Code

In normal life, there is no specific dress code for Acalians. Clothing ranges from simple jumpsuits to flamboyant feathered twelve peice gowns. Those in military or diplomatic service are expected to wear uniform whilst on duty.

Acalians strive to have excellent interspecies relations and respect pre-sentient species rights to a planet.
