When the first waves of Indo-Europeans left the wild Black Sea and Caspian fields, the region became much more empty and began to recover. And many Inhumans moved there from other, northern and eastern places. It is known that in the vast territories around the Volga, Dnieper and Danube there is a fairly strong magical background, and, probably, the Indo-Europeans used it very actively. Again, when most of the people left this area, magic began to recover. And she attracted many different creatures, spirits and monsters. Among them are animals from different parts of the world. They gained reason and will, managed to survive the Great Migration of Nations and found a common language with the Slavs who lived in the region. Each large Slavic people had their own totem animals, and later they appeared among the Scandinavians.

Brown bears, companions of the Eastern Slavs, Beorns preferred to keep in touch with the Slavs who lived in the territories of present-day Ukraine and Belarus. Sentient animals were the guides and advisers of people, usually one per family. We can say that people determined the life of these intelligent animals, because they even gave birth to offspring only in the event of a merger of families. The bond between the bear and the head of the family was unbreakable, and if the beast died without leaving a brood, then great grief awaited the family too. The adoption of Christianity in Russia began to force the Beorns to break away from their loved ones and go into the forest. Their fate is unknown, but in Grani it is assumed that with the leakage of magic, the bears lost their minds, becoming ordinary club-footed ones.

Бурые медведи, спутники восточных славян, беорны предпочитали держать контакт со славянами, жившими на территориях нынешних Украины и Беларуси. Разумные животные были проводниками и советчиками людей, обычно по одной особи на семью. Можно сказать, что люди определяли жизнь этих разумных зверей, ведь даже потомство они заводили лишь в случае слияния семей. Связь между медведем и главой семьи была нерушимой, а если зверь умирал, не оставив выводка, то и семью вскоре ждало великое горе. Принятие христианства на Руси начало вынуждать беорнов откалываться от своих близких и уходить в лес. Судьба их неизвестна, однако в Грани предполагают, что с утечкой магии медведи потеряли и свой разум, став обычными косолапыми.

White Scandinavian Beorns have a slightly different origin story. Some king in the distant VI century AD, during another raid into the forests located on the territory of the present Novgorod region, found out about the Slavic bears and wanted them for himself. The Slavic beorns managed to come to an agreement with him: bring us a bear from your lands, but precisely from those under your control, and we will make him the same. However, the king's lands were in swamps, and bears were not found there. Then he went to conquer the possessions of other kings, one after another, until he reached the northern part of Norway, where he met polar bears. The king was so delighted that he brought not one, but an entire armada. And the Slavic Beorns were only happy: the bear and the bear will come to an agreement, and perhaps the Scandinavians will less often climb into the Slavic lands. This is how the white beorns appeared. Their fate is the same: Catholicism came, the bears went into the forest.

У белых скандинавских беорнов же немного иная легенда. Какой-то конунг в далёком VI веке нашей эры во время очередного рейда в леса, находящиеся на территории нынешней Новгородской области, прознал о славянских медведях и сам себе таких захотел. Славянские беорны сумели с ним договориться: приведи нам медведя из твоих земель, но именно из подвластных тебе, и мы его таким же сделаем. Однако земли конунга были в болотах, и медведи там не водились. Тогда он пошёл покорять одно за другим владение других конунгов, пока не добрался северной части Норвегии, где встретил белых медведей. Так обрадовался конунг, что привёл не одного, а целую армаду. А славянские беорны только и рады были: медведь с медведем договорится, авось и скандинавы будут реже в земли лезть во славянские. Так и появились белые беорны. Судьба у них такая же: пришло католичество, медведи ушли в лес.

The Polanian tribes and other Western Slavs who lived around the Odra and Vistula, as well as the Baltic tribes, found intelligent buffalo in their totem beasts. Unlike bears, there were usually two or three of them per settlement.

Племена полян и других западных славян, живших вокруг Одры и Вислы, а также балты и прочая чудь обрела себе в тотемных зверей разумных бизонов. В отличие от медведей, их обычно было двое-трое на поселение.

The Moravian Slavic tribes were found with Czech black wolves, and this alliance was considered one of the most ferocious. Even Charlemagne was afraid to meddle there. True, the Czechs were also afraid of him, and therefore agreed to pay a huge tribute.

Both the buffalo and the wolves also left because of Christianization: voluntary in the first case, forced after the defeat perpetrated by the Magyars in the second. However, few people remember that there was still such a group of Slavic tribes as the Polabs, also known as the Vendians (although that is how the Germans called all the Slavs). The inhabitants of Pomerania had intelligent white-horned deer as a totem animal, and there were so many of them that the Vendians managed to collect whole cavalry regiments. The Polabian Slavs very slowly integrated into German society, so that the deer managed to hold out the longest - until the middle of the 12th century. However, the Vendian crusade ended this practice: paganism finally died in northern Germany, and the deer also abandoned their human companions.

The only Slavs left without their Inhumans are the southern ones. They migrated exactly without totem animals, and upon arrival in the Balkans, they very quickly converted to Christianity, and monotheism does not really combine with intelligent animals.

Единственные славяне, оставшиеся без своих Нелюдей - южные. Мигрировали они точно без тотемных животных, а по прибытии на Балканы - очень быстро обратились в христианство, а монотеизм с разумными зверями не особо сочетается.
