Mountain Species | Горные виды

Mountain races are species that prefer to settle in the mountains of Eurasia, often directly within these mountains. These are mainly stocky Dwarves and huge Colossals - the two "stone" species, related to each other. They are, in turn, are further divided not into subspecies, but into ethnic groups, depending on the mountains they inhabit. They took their place of honor as the "shepherds of humanity" not by mastering magic or forcing to believe in their gods, but by their craftsmanship. Dwarven goods were prized throughout the Bronze Age world, and much of our progress in metallurgy has come from them.

Горные расы - это виды, которые предпочитают селиться в горах Евразии, частенько непосредственно внутри этих гор. Это, в основном, низкорослые дворфы и огромные колоссы - два "каменных" вида, родственные друг другу. Они уже подразделяются не на подвиды, а на этносы, в зависимости от населяемых ими гор. Своё почётное место "пастухов людей" они заняли не потому, что владели магией или заставляли верить в своих богов, но потому, что были мастерами ремёсел. Дворфийские товары ценились всем миром Бронзового Века, и немалая часть прогресса в металлургии досталась нам от них.

The dwarves and colossi (for convenience we will call them all dwarves) of the Caucasus has a very rich history. The most ancient state of Urartu was founded by them. The dwarves have experienced many conflicts with the cities of Mesopotamia, where their innate resistance to magic helped them greatly. However, the more advanced the Urartians were, the more isolated their "shepherds" became. According to legend, by the end of the Bronze Age, the dwarves had built a huge city beneath the mountains that spread across the Caucasus, and sealed themselves in it shortly before the accession of the Dark Empire. Since then, nothing is known about the Caucasian dwarves, and if the city was found, it was also successfully lost. Few of those who lived on the surface remained there, and still live on the most inaccessible mountains of the region.

У дворфов и колоссов (для удобства будем звать их всех дворфами) Кавказа очень богатая история. Древнейшее государство Урарту было основано именно ими. Дворфы пережили много конфликтов с городами Месопотамии, и в этом им сильно помогала их врождённая сопротивляемость магии. Однако насколько продвинутыми были урартийцы, настолько всё более изолированным становились их "пастухи". Согласно легенде, к концу Бронзового Века дворфы построили огромный город под горами, который распространялся подо всем Кавказом, и запечатали себя в нём незадолго до воцарения Тёмной Империи. С тех пор о кавказских дворфах ничего не известно, а город если и находили, то также успешно и теряли. Немногие из тех, кто жил на поверхности, там и остался, и здравствует до сих пор на самых недоступных горах региона

Carpathian dwarves are the oldest known. They forged their metal products back when the people in the steppes to the east of them were just learning not to be afraid of horses. Due to the strong magically-charged land nearby, these dwarves have learned to combine magic and their technology. They kept to themselves though, not entering into conflicts with anyone, and in their whole history they have not founded their own state. However, this helped them: they are still very much alive and well.

Карпатские дворфы - самые древние из известных. Они ковали свои металлические изделия еще тогда, когда в степях к востоку от них люди только учились не бояться лошадей. Из-за сильной магически-заряженной земли неподалёку, эти дворфы научились сочетать магию и свои технологии. Однако они держались обособленно, не вступая ни с кем в конфликты, и за всю историю так и не создали своего государства. Впрочем, это им и помогло: они здравствуют до сих пор.

The dwarves of the Alps were forged in the most dangerous region of antiquity. The Alpine mountains were chosen by dragons, the surroundings were inhabited by elves, so for almost their entire history, this ethnos struggled for a place in the sun. Constant battles continued until the arrival of the Romans, who were not yet so angry with Inhumans by then. The Romans learned a lot from the Alpine dwarves: they made the army much more disciplined and professional, understood the importance of good equipment and standardization... When the Romans began to practice the genocide of Inhumans, they tried to leave Alps alone. This allowed the alpine dwarves to subsequently take the lead of another civilization - the Swiss, uniting the mountainous country and making their people the best mercenaries in Europe. More than war, these dwarves love only gold, so they're behind the famous (or infamous) Swiss banks as well.

Дворфы Альп выковывались в самом опасном регионе древности. Альпийские горы облюбовали драконы, а со всех остальных сторон обитали эльфы, так что почти вся история этого этноса - это история борьбы за место под солнцем. Постоянные сражения продолжались вплоть до прибытия римлян, которые тогда ещё не были настолько озлоблены на нелюдей. От альпийских дворфов римляне научились многому: сделали армию намного дисциплинированнее и профессиональнее, поняли важность хорошей экипировки и стандартизации... Когда же римляне занялись практикой геноцида нелюдей, в Альпы они старались не соваться. Это позволило альпийским дворфам впоследствии встать во главе ещё одной цивилизации - Швейцарской, объединив горную страну и сделав свой народ лучшими наёмниками в Европе. Больше войны эти дворфы любят только золото, так что швейцарские банки - это тоже всё они.

Living in the most inaccessible areas of Scotland, the Hebrides dwarves preferred not to deal with humans. Especially considering that Albion was mostly under the elves. After the latter left the British Isles, and after the fall of the Roman Empire, the dwarves from the mountains nevertheless descended and founded the clan structure we know, which was later transferred from the Picts to the future Scots. By themselves, the Hebrides dwarves rarely descended from their mountains, coming to the aid of people only in the times or dire need: during the uprisings of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, during the Hundred Years War, during the Civil War in England, even took part in the Jacobin Uprising. However, since then, they mostly avoided interfering in the affairs of the plains and foothills. The Hebride dwarves are still alive, but they live in isolation from the rest.

Живущие в самых недоступных районах Шотландии, гебридские дворфы предпочитали с людьми дела не иметь. Особенно с учётом того, что Альбион в большинстве своём находился под эльфами. После ухода последних с британских островов, и после падения Римской Империи, дворфы с гор всё-таки спустились и основали известную нам клановую структуру, которая впоследствии была передана от пиктов будущим шотландцам. Сами по себе гебридские дворфы редко спускались с гор, приходя на помощь людям лишь в часы особенной нужды: во время восстаний Уильяма Уоллеса и Роберта Брюса, во время Столетней войны, во время Гражданской войны в Англии, даже в Якобинском восстании поучаствовали. Однако с тех времён они больше старались не вмешиваться в дела равнин и предгорий. Гебридские дворфы живы до сих пор, но живут изолированно от остальных.
