Alexandria Dubois

(a.k.a. The Gentle Giant)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Alexandria undoubtedly possesses a tough exterior that doesn't always match up with her kind and witty personality. She has long blond hair that she keeps in a tight ponytail with various braids laced through the locks and colorful bird feathers. Her bright blue eyes shimmer like a pool of water and they stand out against the two black lines she paints beneath them and her thick black eyeliner. She is alarmingly tall, standing nearly 6 foot 8, and she has earned herself the title of the Gentle Giant in the local Adventurers' Guild. She is even more muscular than some of the men. She wears thick furs on her shoulders and around her waist, even despite the heat of the summer, but her shirt is a cropped black piece of fabric and she wears a pair of loose black slacks. She keeps a massive black greatsword with her at all times, and when she's not holding it, she has it strapped to her back.

Special abilities

Alexandria is a Barbarian, Path of the Storm Herald. The druids who taught her believe she may have developed her primal magic from her family's connection to Karram, and they worked with her to channel that magic through Lorena's teachings instead. Karram has a more primal rage, one that is tempered by the heat of battle and the thrill of competition, whereas Lorena's rage comes from her desire to protect those she loves. Those who unleash their fury through Karram possess less control over their rage than those who do through Lorena. Alexandria uses her fury to unleash the power of a mighty storm and has attained a level of control over the magic.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Alexandria grew up as the youngest daughter of Abelard Dubois, a religious leader in the Couronnée Empire and the current overseer of the Empire's occupation in Sylvari. As the youngest, Alexandria was often left to her own devices and forgotten about by her father and her older twin sisters, Oriel and Raissa, who help their father govern Sylvari. Abelard has always been paranoid about the elven occupants of the druidic town in the Forest of Dreams and typically refused to leave his estate for fear of assassination. The twins handled most of the matters outside the estate, and they despised Alexandria who they felt always got in their way. So, Alexandria did her best to avoid them altogether.   However, pretending she didn't exist to her family caused her to grow quite lonely, and she ended up making friends in secret with some of the elves and the half-elves in Sylvari. As she grew older, she began to learn more about the Empire's occupation and the strains it was causing on the druids' way of life. She began to despise her father and her sisters--and the Empire as a whole--seeing the pain that they were causing and the stifling of culture they wrought on Sylvari. She wanted to help her new friends and joined the Daughters of Lorena where she began to learn about their druidic practices and dedication to the Champion Lorena. These practices fueled Alexandria with new desire and belonging and as she trained, the Daughters taught her to wield different weapons and to channel her rage into something magical and manageable upon the battlefield.    In the first rebellion in Sylvari against the Empire, Alexandria betrayed her family and joined the druids. Together, and with Alexandria's knowledge of the Empire's forces, the druids were able to bring down a number of stationed military and reclaimed many parts of Sylvari, pushing in toward Abelard's estate. But, unbeknownst to Alexandria, Oriel and Raissa has been following her movements for years, discovering her plans to unite with the druids. As they neared the estate, the twins countered the attack with malicious force and a number of reinforcements from Port du Rêveur. Alexandria and the rebels that survived were taken as prisoners. Alexandria's friends were executed in front of her and Abelard left his youngest daughter in the hands of Oriel and Raissa. Her punishment would be in knowing that she had brought death upon the druids for her treason against the Empire.   Alexandria was filled with a new kind of rage and guilt at what she had brought to those she'd called friends in Sylvari. Unable to take the pain any longer, Alexandria packed what she could and escaped the estate, disappearing into the Forest of Dreams.    For weeks, she struggled on her own, surviving by the lessons she'd learned from the druids until finally, she made it to the Bridge of Lorena and crossed over to the Wild Half, never looking back, though guilty for abandoning those who still remained in Sylvari. When she found herself in Perdu, haggard and lost, Elodie the Elder took her in and brought her back to health, but Alexandria would not share her troubled history. She covered her dark past with a fake happiness and carefree demeanor, and it worked against the people of Perdu.   She has remained in the town ever since, for nearly three years now, and has tried to right that wrongs she made in Sylvari by working as a member of the local Board of Adventurers. She would help those who needed it most, even to the detriment of her own survival.

Employment

As a fully initiated member of the Board of Adventurers, Alexandria is entitled to special job postings and hired adventuring brought to the Guild by paying parties. Though she started as a follower, she quickly moved through the ranks and has become one of the party leaders in the guild. She has lead several expeditions in the Valley of Nova to hunt wayward fey and creatures terrorizing the farmers. Recently, the guild has suffered a deficit in quests, so Alexandria spends the majority of her time acting as bouncer of the Guild Hall.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Many outsiders, especially those of the Couronnée Empire, are not often welcomed into the inner circle of the druids in the Forest of Dreams. However, Alexandria showed great promise as a teenager, and her prowess in combat was unmatched. The druids helped Alexandria tame her rage into something worth the glory she would try to bring them in their rebellion, and she became the first outsider to master their teachings.

Failures & Embarrassments

Alexandria was one of the leaders of the first rebellion against the Couronnée Empire in Sylvari. Though the rebellion did not succeed, what came after shaped Alexandria for the rest of her life. She'd learned much from the druids and about the nature of her rage, and now she utilizes that to help all those she can since she could not save her friends on that fateful day.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Alexandria strives to lay down her life in defense of others. She could not protect her friends in Sylvari, and she never wants that to happen again. She tries to remain positive and uplifting, unleashing her anger only when absolutely necessary, and though she seems to act with little caution around new people, she is careful to guard herself and her secrets.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

She is rather talented with dice, something that she picked up from some of the druids in Sylvari who have a special game they like to play known as Lorena's Luck. She has taught this game to several members of the Board of Adventurers. She is nearly impossible to beat and has figured out a number of strategies to win the game.

Virtues & Personality perks

She will never forget the defeat at Sylvari and the enemies--her own family--that dealt it. She forms close bonds with people and is unwaveringly loyal to those she cares about.

Vices & Personality flaws

She made a horrible mistake in not watching out for Oriel and Raissa and it cost many lives--and she would do anything to keep that mistake secret, even lying to those she is closest to.

Social

Family Ties

Alexandria comes from the Dubois family, a powerful and wealthy lineage of religious leaders in the Couronnée Empire. Abelard Dubois--Alexandria's father--used to be the right-hand man of King Maxime, but was excommunicated from the King's inner circle following an attempted coup. Abelard was exiled to run the occupation in Sylvari with his family. However, the day they arrived on the Glimmering Coast, Abelard's wife, Ingrid, was found dead in her cabin.    Abelard became paranoid following her death, and after arriving in Sylvari, refused to leave his estate or step a toe out of King Maxime's wishes for fear that his death would come next. Abelard's paranoia led to his neglect of Alexandria, and her subsequent desire to join the Daughters of Lorena.    Oriel and Raissa are the true figureheads in Sylvari, and ensure that daily operations run smoothly. They maintain contact with the Empire and were responsible for a tighter military force in the Forest of Dreams. Alexandria never felt connected to them, and they mentally tormented her as a child for her strange magical outbursts, though Ingrid always told Alexandria she was chosen by Karram and that was to be treasured.   Alexandria is now an outcast of the Dubois family and keeps her connection to them secret.

Religious Views

When she was young, Alexandria's mother Ingrid used to tell her the great stories of Karram and his many battles upon the sea. Alexandria was known to have terrible tantrums as a girl that often resulted in chaotic storms, and though the Couronnée Empire views signs of this as a blessing of Karram, they are also terrified of his wrath and see the chaos as an omen of Karram's discontent. Growing up, this lead to conflicting feelings for Alexandria and she grew to resent Karram and the "blessing" he'd bestowed upon her. However, dissent in a religious nation such as the Couronnée Empire was not welcomed, and she kept much of her confused feelings to herself.   However, upon befriending the druids in Sylvari, Alexandria started to see her abilities in a new light, one guided by Lorena instead. This lead to a new sense of acceptance within herself and she began to feel devoted to the Champion's teachings as told to her by the druids.    Alexandria is not necessarily religious, but she does feel a special connection to Lorena because of her connection with the druids. She prays to the Champion at night and carved a small symbol to her that she keeps tucked away. She does not buy into the Assembly of Concorde's goals of harmony in the pantheon, especially given her resentment toward Karram, but she understands that this perspective of religion has been important in bringing together the communities of the Valley of Nova.

Mannerisms

Alexandria does not grow uncomfortable easily and she is always down for a game of dice. She even carries a set of dice with her at all times. Her high-pitched and excitable way of speaking are also a bit jarring when given her rough appearance, but she has earned her title of the Gentle Giant because of it.
