Stainworks
"Only reason it's still there is because nobody who knows better dares touch it."Stainworks is a heavy industry area on the west side of Gomino-Yama. Situated next to the Kipling Quarry mine, the district is dedicated to ore extraction and processing, leading to a considerable amount of ground and air pollution.
Pollution and solution
The area has been called a "contagious dump" and "a toxic hazard that will only spread if we ignore it" by politicians, urban planners and environmental activists alike, and the Fortune Health and Safety Department (FHS) recommends class-B protective gear if one is to remain in the area for more than 15 minutes outside the confines of a vehicle. About 75% of work in Stainworks nowadays is automated, but some on-site human contribution is still required, done in everything from hazmat suits to full mech-like exoskeletons. Even with this amount of awareness and protection, the mostly low-income workers in the area have a 10-15 years shorter lifespan than the average citizen, and many develop breathing-related diseases relatively early on. As long as the mining industry is lucrative, the fate of Stainworks and its pollution levels is an uncertain one.Industry & Trade
