History
The Japanese name, which is the most commonly used one, literally means "mountain of garbage", and stems from its origins: Gomino was originally only 353 meters high, but leftover stone and soil from the Fortune Mine was in 1992 used to terraform the hill into its current height. Nicknames such as "Fortune Dump" seems to have been around since the project was completed, and with the influx of Japanese immigrants in the 2030's and early 2040's the district quickly became a poverty-stricken area filled with cheap workers' housing. As the inhabitants learned the history of "the dump", the mocking nicknames were translated into Japanese, and stuck with the rest of the population.
The area has gone through a clean-up and gentrification phase, and the Gomino of today is a middle-class neighborhood with high-rise blocks lining the twisty mountainside roads. A large percent of the inhabitants still have Japanese heritage.
