Dae

Dae are often a humanoid species that have much darker, almost ashen gray-brown skin, striking orange-colored irises, and large, imposing frames. While there is little known about their species in general, some among them possess a unique ability to open dimensional folds, allowing for transmission to a variety of locations, or worlds beyond Folterra. Dae on Folterra are largely hostile, or very indifferent to many of the other sapient races due to unknown reasons. Despite this, there are some societies they have joined willingly, and have adapted to life with humans or Drakkon.   Though there are several subspecies of Dae, this article will delve into the two types of Dae that have proved cooperative with researchers - normal, or simply just "Dae", and Formshifers, or Dae that can shapeshift into a variety of different forms.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanoid Dae appear, well, very closely to their human counterparts. They bear nearly identical body structure, with the exception of often having larger torsos in men, larger leg muscles in women, and both sexes being much taller (males average about 6ft 7in tall, females 6ft tall). Additionally, they have much darker skin than humans, often being gray, brown, or red in tone.   As for Formshifters, as the name implies, they take many different forms. They do not have a currently known "resting" form, but some accounts seem to imply that they take a similar appearance to their "normal" counterparts.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dae reproduce much like humans do - though their gestation period is often one month longer. Strangely, there are a handful of Dae that have been documented as being genetically sterile. There is no current explanation for this phenomenon.   Dae also sometimes carry a gene responsible for Dae Mutation, though it is not currently known exactly why. It seems much more present in Formshifters and their offspring.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dae grow much like humans do, though at a slightly accelerated rate. A Dae child reaches complete maturity at about sixteen years of age, give or take.   Formshifters are currently unknown as to how long or what exactly their maturity is, and how long it takes.

Ecology and Habitats

Dae seem equipped to handle a large variety of regions, especially those in dry, arid climates. While they can live in colder, wetter climates, they highly prefer not to.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They require a diet identical to humans.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While Dae seem to be identical to humans in their sensory capabilities, they possess much greater low-light vision than humans do.   They also seem unable to perceive ley energy, even to a minor degree like humans can.
