Angelic Wasps

Angelic Wasps are actually a type of bee, but an incompetent translator popularised the wrong name around the world, and now it has stuck.
Angelic Wasps originated in the island of Moku no Lin. Their delicate constitution and particular feeding habits (they only take the pollen of one specific type of purple flower) mean they only prosper in healthy environments. The people of Moku no Lin understood this, and thus considered it a sign of good luck to see Angelic Wasps around them.
However, the invasion and subsequent colonisation of Moku no Lin by their larger continental neighbour Ikkoku put the species at great risk of extinction. The war for independence destroyed most of Moku no Lin's countryside. Angelic Wasps were not spotted in the island for many years (which some locals took as a sign that the war was a bad omen and they should just accept Ikkoku's authority) and were considered lost.
It was only after Moku no Lin's second war of independence (King Temeru was an insistent monarch) was long over that the Angelic Wasps showed themselves to the population again. The circumstances of their return were as baffling as they were a cause for celebration, until a group of children stumbled upon an Angelic Wasps nest and their survival suddenly made much more sense. The Angelic Wasps had created a fortress out of sugar and sap, taller than a two-storey house and sturdier than an oak tree. They had hibernated there, waiting until the outside world was safe again to come out.
The people of Moku no Lin have since tried to replicate the Angelic Wasps' fortress, but they lack the engineering skills for such a feat.

Angelic Wasps are a treasure of the world and enjoy absolute protection wherever they go.
