Visperus

The Visperus are a group of rebel Medusan who use guerrilla tactics, terrorism, and violence to fight against the incarceration and destruction of their people. They are scattered mostly across Pageneid and the branching rivers, but cells of them exist across much of the sovereign lands. They sprouted in the aftermath of Marfal's murder, rallying to her martyrdom despite the protest of the kin to remain pacifist and not fight against the common folk. A hundred years has seen their organization grow strong and numerous with those of Medusan blood.

Structure

Originally, the group was led by a single leader, Visperus, but as it grew and spread, a council of four Princes was anointed, and the duties of the leader were lessened and shared. The council and the leader rarely stray from the safety of Visperus' base of operations for fear of the price on their heads, so individual cells are governed by Lieutenants.

Public Agenda

Visperus seeks to see the common folk pushed back and properly punished for their crimes against the Medusan, especially those done against the innocent children. The ultimate goal is to see Medusan kind in power, holding the sovereign lands in their fist with the power to crush it if needed.

History

Visperus was originally a rebel group known as the Fangs of the Viper. Founded in the year 21 REA by Visperus, a half-blooded Medusan who had been turned out by the military and his own home, the organization settled in the plains of Pageneid with the intention of avenging Marfal's death. As the group grew in numbers, their attacks became bolder, and they went from ambushing caravans and trade routes to attacking towns and small cities. They quickly learned an outright tactic did not serve their numbers well, and they fell on guerrilla and fear tactics. In 52 REA, Visperus was killed in an ambush gone wrong. In the aftermath of their leader's death, the group rallied and redoubled their onslaught. Attacks from the Fangs of the Viper increased, and their name was known across the lands. Internally, however, they were crumbling with lack of stable leadership. The mantle of leader passed from person to person, as no one was deemed worthy to be Visperus' successor. Eventually, a convergence was called, and four Princes were named as a council to decide the new leader. With the leadership settled and cemented, the group flourished once more, now proudly sporting the title of their fallen leader: Visperus. Whispers of their name spread like wildfire throughout hidden Medusan communities, and any Medusan who felt wronged by the workings of the common folk were accepted with open arms. Pockets of Visperus sprouted up across Pageneid, and Lieutenants were named to properly govern them. In recent times, Visperus has turned its eye eastward towards the Baredrow Coast with the city of Norteferro as their prize. So began the Blood Campaign, a slow march towards Visperus' end goal of cowing the sovereign lands and holding the fate of the world in their palm.
