THE EIGHT CLANS

“My beautiful daughter, do you know how long it takes to walk across the whole Valley? No? Three days! You’ll get blisters on your feet. Oh, but you want to see the other Clans do you? Huff, do not get me started! Let me tell you about the other Clans. Green Spear Clan here in the South you know send their young to be ‘brave’ scouring the Wyld for artifacts and what not. Simple minded fools they are. The Rising Sun Clan in the central plains worshipping old dead Gods, and for what? Not a damn thing. Then we have the Eastern ones like the Gentle Cave Clan who are nothing but lazy drunks the lot of them. At least they are more fun than their neighbours the Hidden Hand Clan who are all a bunch of boorish monks that won’t even talk to you. On to the Northern ones, ush, don’t even go there. The Ancient Hunt clan are big mouthed braggarts that are so good at telling stories they end up believing them themselves. Those of the Jagged Rock Clan build dangerous constructions and tinker with all kinds of things you should stay away from! Last but not at all the least are those pompous, aggressive and uncivilized brutes of the Golden Titan Clan so don’t even think of going there. No no, you are far better off staying here in the Eternal Forest Clan with your own blood tending to the animals and cultivating the land in benefit for all of Bastion Valley. Ah, may the Crystal bless our home!”
— Giasti Greenthumbs of the Eternal Forest Clan
The people of Bastion Valley has formed a societal structure of eight clans. Everyone has ties to at least one clan and take pride in that fact. All clans have a chieftain which is chosen by the members of the clan as the strongest embodiment of what the clan stands for as they all have different virtues and taboos. Every major position in the clans and the whole Valley is filled by those tested and voted the most competent in their fields.
