Smigrin Mining District
Geography
Surroundings & Relationships
The Mining District is defined by its relationship to the Biworr Peaks, as it constitutes the southern slopes of the western half of the mountain range. To the south of the Mining District is Old Smigra. To the southwest is Foltzhai Forest. To the east is Vernland.Features
The Mining District is divided into eastern and western pieces by a spur of mountains, branching off the Biworr Peaks, known locally simply as The Spur. Out of the western portion of the District flows the River Lamor, a tributary to the Folt River.Communities
Most of the towns of the Mining District never got very big, and dry up into ghost towns whenever mining activity in the Empire is at a nadir (as it is presently). There are two notable exceptions, a perennial city and town that keep the Empire supplied with iron, silver, and other ores between waves of mining. Elthakun, in the western portion of the Mining District (on the bank of the River Lamor) is home to the finest forges and smithies in its part of the world, and continues to delve deeper and deeper into the mountains to mine more iron to feed its forges. It has a strong military presence, which maintains the safety of the mines as well as being a reserve force in case of conflict with Tanash-tok-Biworr to the north. Felwarren is a small but tenacious town, known as a "tourist location for would-be adventurers" due to its mine shaft's connection with a hyper-active dungeon complex.Fauna & Flora
The Mining District is not particularly lush, but has ordinary levels of mountainous-friendly flora and fauna. Mountain lions abound but mostly keep to themselves. Coyotes, giant rats, and giant lizards are more troubling pests to the inhabitants of Elthakun and Felwarren.
