Propheticism
The school of study revolving around Heroes of Prophecy and the associated prophecies, with particular focus on the prophets, their specific prophecies, the prophecy mechanism, and the fulfillment of the prophecy during The Shadow War.
Propheticists (those who practice propheticism) are not necessarily prophets themselves, though many propheticist sects take concerted steps to become prophets and take great pride in how many prophets and dakk'sen they can claim.
In general, propheticists believe that all prohpecy is sent from the gods in an attempt to guide Feodrians through the currents of time. Since gods can perceive time in its entirety, they understand that the "time root" is where potentials come together to form the present, which immediately transitions into being the past. This moment matters because the past is immutable, while the future very much is. Nearly all of their effort is meant to influence this time root in some way or another.
Prophetiscism is a wide-ranging field, and includes (among other more esoteric subdivisions and disciplines) the following core definitions:
Prophecies
Prophecies are clear circumstances: a scene, a descriptive sequence, a set of coincidences, a tangible and identifiable moment that can be identified. Prophecies require two parts which must be sent by the same deity:Previsions
Previsions are experienced by "Accursed," so named because historically they were martyred for relaying the details of their Previsions. Accursed are generally compelled through their experience to transfer their prevision to an augurine, in some notable instances going to hazardous, grotesque, or self-destructive extremes to do so. The creation of augurines is unique to each prevision, though some of them have common materials or methodologies, particularly if granted from a deity that sends a lot of previsions. Previsions some in several styles:Omens
Omens are minor previsions, they indicate which possibilities are dominant. They are meant to serve as signposts for which set of other prophecies are relevant.Forecasts
Forecasts are prophecies meant to be dire warnings; outcomes to be avoided at any cost. They are ususally associated with an Omen.Augury
An augury is an outcome that is desirable; failing to achieve an augury is thought to indicate a missed opportunity to push the time root toward a preferable circumstance.Visions
Visions are received by "Dakk'sen," a prophet who has heard an augurine's message and identifies the moment the circumstance that was previsaged has come to pass. The name "dakk'sen" comes from the oumgean for "gods' eye." Many cults, the Order of the Eternal Tree, scholarly societies, illuminati groups, hyper-intelligent monsters, capable wizards (2nd level or 5th if secondary multi-classed), over-curious bards, and realm-ending tyrants often have an interest in receiving a message from a god. Visions have two types:Revelation
Revelations are significant understandings about the shape of things to come from the acceptance of the vision.Sooth
Sooth are visions which simply confirm the prevision has come to pass.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
