Vezoley

Vezoley is the only place souls go after death.

Summary

After death, all souls make their way to Vezoley in some way or another, though exactly how varies from region to region. The general consensus is that whatever it is, its purpose is to help the spirit come to terms with their life, and that they can't move on until they've made their peace with the events of their life, their failures, even their death. Once they've done this, they then make their way to Vezoley, a realm that's basically earth, but for spirits. There is no governance in Vezoley, and it serves as a playground for the souls until they decide to jump into the waterfall and make their way back down to earth, living another life. The eventual goal is to eventually become good enough people to turn Vezoley into a permanent residence, and to live peacefully there forever, free from the constraints of the god of dark and goddess of light's constant fighting.

Spread

This is spread throughout Xiveri up until the natural boundaries of the mountains to the north and east and the river to the south and west. It's more prevalently believed by more people than the myth of the god of dark and goddess of light.

Variations & Mutation

It's stayed pretty much the same from generation to generation. It's very simple, and any changes didn't last long. This is also the form it's recorded in in The Collective Mythologies of the Xiverith People, meaning that that is inevitably the most widespread form it's known in.

Cultural Reception

It's not as important, and is seen as more of an opportunity and an inevitable future than anything. It's important to the general story throughout their mythology, but it isn't a huge part of Xiverith national identity. It's not really known at all beyond Xiveri's borders.

In Literature

There aren't any books specifically about the afterlife other than The Healing of Vezoley, which depicts how the eternal paradise that is hoped for comes to fruition. It's a part in so many other books and poems that it would take years to list them all.

In Art

There are many different works of art depicting the afterlife, the most notable being A Depiction of Vezoley, Vezoley #5, and The Afterlife Eternal.
