Xiveri

Xiveri is a technologically advanced, culturally rich, and resource rich country that's landlocked between four different hostile nations. Six hundred years ago, it closed its borders and cut itself off from the rest of the world due to an attempted invasion by the four surrounding countries; two days ago, those borders were opened again.

Structure

Xiveri is a very decentralized monarchy. Though there is a king, and he controls the capital of Vangeleth and the general laws of the land, his name holds no power beyond the capital's walls. Each city is responsible for enforcing laws, and they often bend the laws and enforce them in the ways that they think would be right.

Culture

The core ideals of the Xiverith are to always innovate and look to the future, and to preserve their nation's natural beauty at all costs. They always celebrate the turning of the seasons, from the wet season to the dry season and vice versa, as well as the day they closed their borders to outside nations.

Assets

Xiveri is a very naturally rich nation, and have never lacked for any food or ore. They have a very strong military and innovative weapons, and hold great numbers of horses. There are numerous citadels all over the country, at all points along the border where other nations have even a chance of getting in through.

History

Though of course there were some conflicts, for centuries, the Xiverith were known as a generous nation that kept a very strict rule of neutrality on all matters unless they themselves were attacked. Due to their very strong military, they never were, until all the surrounding nations allied together to try and invade and take Xiveri's natural resources. However, due mainly to its natural defenses such as mountains and rivers, the Xiverith easily fought off the attacking armies and soon barricaded itself against the rest of the world, pulling away into isolation. All Xiverith representatives in other nations escaped in the night and made their way through the borders just in time for the borders to close - permanently, they said at the time. Now, it's been two days since the borders have reopened.

Demography and Population

Population: 8,907,612
Main Ethnic Group: Xiverith
Percentage of Minorities: 1.2%
Average Infant Mortality Rate: 42%
Life Expectancy: 67

Territories

They occupy only lands that they have always held historically.

Military

They have a very strong military, as they're always on guard for when the other nations try to invade them again. They make sure to innovate and invent new things for the military as often as possible, though that applies everywhere else, too. There are two divisions in the military; there's the xichoza, their version of a general, and the common foot soldier. The xichoza commands their own citadel, guarding the border, while the king has full control over all of it. There may be hierarchical structures within the foot soldier rank, but they vary and aren't taken into account beyond that citadel.

Technological Level

The Xiverith have discovered their equivalent of gunpowder - other than this, there are no innovations beyond new weapons for the military. Though they don't have access to any of the technologies that require steam power or electricity, they have access to almost all of the technologies we today consider medieval. Though the other countries aren't slacking in the technological department, they're still falling behind Xiveri, and none of them have even conceived of gunpowder.

Religion

By and large, Xiveri is agnostic. Most people believe that there's something out there, but they don't know what or they don't care. The traditional Xiverith mythology is still believed in some places and is known by everyone else, but it hasn't been widely believed in hundreds of years.

Foreign Relations

Six hundred years ago, the Xiverith cut themselves off from the rest of the world completely, and the borders have only been reopened for two days. They have no foreign relations.

Agriculture & Industry

Xiveri focuses equally on agriculture and industry, as they are a very naturally rich country, but they are also very focused on innovation. Almost anything can be planted on their rich soil, though they focus on grains and the sap of trees, which is very rare and expensive, as Xaltheng Trees, the most prevalent kind of tree in Xiveri, give no sap. Industrially, they focus less on mass production and more on engineering, leading to small buildings where engineers and inventors meet in place of factories. Most people in Xiveri are very self-sufficient, meaning that factories aren't needed to make food or clothes, either. The only factories are those used to cut xaltheng wood, as that's the most common building material.

Trade & Transport

Within Xiveri, things are typically transported through a sort of mailman. He drives around on a wagon, passing each house in the town as he goes, and picks up and delivers packages. These "mailmen" come in different forms - some operate only within a city's boundaries, and some operate throughout the entire nation. These mailmen also aren't under the control of the king; they just started doing this to make money, and now it's an independent business.

Education

Most of the people in Xiveri are educated to at least some extent, about 96% of the population. Year-round education is required for all from six up until the age of fifteen, though it is possible to just keep doing it constantly up until the age of thirty. Schoolhouses are used from six to fifteen, but once it passes that age, where it's taught is up to the teachers. After the age of twenty, it often becomes a tutoring situation because of the massive drop-off in students after the requirement is up.

Infrastructure

Xiveri has all of the modern infrastructures: an intricate water system, aqueducts, sewage, well-kept roads, citadels, border towers, bridges, town plazas that serve as open-air town halls, city walls, etc. Many of these things are very old, but are still in great condition because of the constant tending-to they tend to get.

    Xiveri Reopens Its Borders
    Diplomatic action

After about 600 years of complete isolation from the rest of the world, Xiveri suddenly opens its borders again. The reasons are unclear even to those closest to the centre of administration. Immediately, the four nations surrounding it prepare to send delegates into the capital through the only checkpoint currently available, Zonix, to case the situation.
