The First Ghost

"I thought it would be more interesting than that." Siobhan said, chewing a fingernail.   "Interesting?" Kim scoffed. "I just thought it would be cool,"   "Yeah, it's the First Ghost, isn't it supposed to be like, super important?" Ceri-Ann laid a finger on the glass case.   "It is crucial to our alliance with the Grave Council," The curator said, peering over his glasses at the trainees. "We cast it out of molten gold to honour and represent the fact that a portion of our Government's care and resources will forever more be dedicated to the sentient ghost community. Our alliance was forged at the same time this statuette was." He glared at Siobhan.   She never found out what it was he was going to say; criticise her for her comment, or complain about her hair. Either way, he was interrupted by an odd hooting noise.   Ceri-Ann giggled behind her hand. Kim snorted and scuffed his trainer on the carefully polished floor. Siobhan merely smirked, a blue eyebrow quivering.   "My god! It's a pigeon!"   The trainees from Fantasma scattered, laughter echoing around the hall like hailstones.   Of course they blamed it on ghosts. That was before the group of school leavers realised they had joined the adult world now, and trapping pigeons in a political museum was no longer a prank; it was tantamount to losing your job.   Siobhan grinned. She'd had amazing times with Kim when they were training. The last time she'd spoken to him he was telling her about the birth of his daughter at 4am. It gave her a warm, fuzzy feeling, knowing that they were still close enough for him to ring her in the middle of the night to tell her his news. That she was that important to him that he had to tell her immediately and not in the morning with everyone else.
