Empress of the Meridian of Stars' Eternal
The legendary and enigmatic Empress of the Meridian of Stars' Eternal, master of the arts of Divination, and the living embodiment of the night sky to many. Astralshaper is an immortal black dragon who designed and built the Meridian - a visionary, with the ambition to unify the races of the world under her wings. Nearly every organization and government within the Equatorial Rise only exist by her ordain, and she has final authority over any and all matters she deems worthy of her attention and intervention. Her origins are unknown and deeply shrouded in mystery, but the path of her ascension was documented in the lengthy Saga of Night.
Astralshaper has historically been hands-on with management of the Meridian, and would spend every waking moment balancing and directing the energies of the powerful Great Houses by consulting regularly with the Celestial Assemblies from within her labyrinthine and palatial complex, the Astropolis. Her popularity amidst the citizens of the Meridian was nearly always overwhelmingly high. She was documented to be very charismatic and convincing; austere, but regal; and she always appeared to have the upper-hand in a conversation, with the uncanny ability to seemingly predict what someone was thinking.
Astralshaper is known to be the supreme master of Divination, and her power is so great that she alone is said to be the only force truly warding off the Evening Star. There have been extensive studies on the origin of her powers without success, but she has openly attributed her divine abilities to the stars and heavenly night itself. It is said that she has a deep passion for astrology and would spent much of her free time practicing the art. This has sprouted a widespread interest and reverence for all things dark and celestial, with various cults and religions founded on faith in the divinity of the starry skies. It was not, and to a certain extent still isn't, uncommon for those to worship Astralshaper herself as a living goddess of the astral night.
Within the last fifty rotations, her popularity has experienced a steady decline. Between increasingly erratic and bizarre behaviors, such as the abolishment of the Celestial Assemblies; the formation of the Regent Vicarvoyancy Assembly to make legislative decisions on her behalf; and severing of Venerate Vertinal from the Meridian - an act often attributed to Astralshaper; there has been a rising concern that she no longer cares about her people.
Astralshaper has not been seen publicly for the last fifty rotations, and this in turn has created a period of turmoil and unrest within the Meridian. The Regent Vicarvoyancy Assembly is not well liked by the general population due to the implementation of odd and sometimes wild laws that are supposedly made on behalf of Astralshaper. The Great Houses have largely seized the opportunity to take matters into their own hands, adding to the uncertainty of the future of the Meridian at large.
