Hanlen

Established twenty years ago as a haven for pacifists, this forested village enjoys the quiet life for the most part. They worship the Forest Mother and tend gardens, making conservation efforts for the local flora and fauna. Every harvest a group of bandits collects provisions but the villagers always comply to avoid conflict.

Events

From the Live Session (10): A town besieged by bandits. Upon arrival, The Party (Bart, Jorgen, Qalirin, Shamash, and Vimak) find Niers the druid, Romeia the monk, and Shash the bard in combat with a handful of unsavory characters. One villager's life is claimed in the melee.   Afterwards the village hosts a town hall meeting. It is explained that to outsiders what looks like extortion is actually a willing sacrifice to keep the peace. Despite the party's insistence that the bandit's demand for tribute is wrong, the villagers cannot condone violence upon them. The party devises a plan to stop them nevertheless. During the commotion the party are approached by Doona, Tabaxi Wizard who offers to take out the entire camp of bandits single-handedly in exchange for their Orb of Orcus. The party decline, unsure if Doona is trustworthy.   Preparations are made around town for potential attackers. Defensive barricades are set up at chokepoints and decoy scarecrow warriors stand at windows and doorways. That evening, the party intercepts some bandits on their way into town and convince them that the villagers are gathering provisions to be delivered the following afternoon. In reality the party is planning to attack at dawn, however, the warlock cannot resist defeating these vulnerable few grunts separated from the bulk of their forces. Eldritch blasts light up the night, and the battle is begun much sooner than anyone was prepared for.   Vimak sprints ahead to the bandit camp, where a battle of epic proportions begins. More and more bandits erupt from tents and come down the gangplank of their ship Shut Up Idiot. The sheer numbers overwhelm the attacking party members. Eventually The Party prove victorious but lose Romeia and Shamash in the encounter. Bittersweet, the village is safe from future raids but the casualty count was quite large. Doona kept the town safe from wayward bandits, although she could not stop a few buildings from getting burnt.   The next day, a funeral procession is held for Shamash, Romeia, and the slaughtered villager. They are adorned with robes, flowers and sigils of the Forest Mother. To everyone's surprise, the dragonborn arises. It is not immediately clear that he is no longer Bahamut's Champion but has become Shamash , Tiamat's Chosen. Shrugging off the robe and flowers and turning down offers to join the funeral ritual, Shamash storms off to pack his things and leave for his new goal; a mission for revenge and a lust for chaos.   The party is stunned at the day's events. They are now the owner of the Shut Up Idiot and need to continue upriver to Garrenbridge in order to carry out a mission to investigate the Adamantine Soul. They choose to leave the Orb of Orcus in the care of Doona, who leaves instructions on where to find her if the party wishes to.
