Io Father of Dragonkind
Io Father of Dragonkind
Soon after the Creator Gods willed existence into being, primordial energies began to mold themselves into consciousness. The first conscious being chose the most powerful form as his body; a winged, fanged serpent capable of elemental breath attacks. Like most deities, Io thought to create new life in his own image, and brought forth the first Dragon. Io's first creation was named Vorel, the draconic word for beauty. Vorel pleased Io. However, he displayed very little personality and was not a fulfilling companion.
Since Vorel was too serene, Io chose to embody the extremes of his temperament for his next creation. Thus he created Bahamut and Tiamat. The pair were complete opposites. One had all of the restraint and wisdom from Io, the other contained all of his passion and ambition. Io intended the two to mate. Their offspring would take the best traits of each, and result in the perfect example of dragonkind. Bahamut and Tiamat could not bear the thought because they hated everything the other stood for. The two were bitter rivals, Yin and Yang, a perfect counter and perfect match all at once.
The pair meant to bring peace were destined to make war instead. Tiamat created dragons in her own image, and Bahamut soon followed suit. Their creations battled across the heavens, and their blood created more dragonkin when spilled. The war between metallic and chromatic dragons was eternal in the primordial plane.
Tiamat came up with a scheme to remove her rival and win the war. She slew Io's firstborn, Vorel, and pointed the blame at her counterpart Bahamut in an effort to remove him from their celestial home. Io could sense the truth and instead banished Tiamat to a plane of anguish ruled by Asmodeus . There, she struck a deal with Asmodeus secret even to most gods, and was given her own lair on the first level of Hell where even the eternal battle between demons and devils dare not tread.
Io's legacy continue their celestial battle today. Both Bahamut and Tiamat have agendas on several planes of existence. It is said neither can be killed because they are known to such a wide audience that they will always have a following, and thus, divine power they can draw from worship from those followers. Io is remembered, but not as widely as his creations who have personified the struggle between good and evil.
In the primordial beginnings of existence, the first deity chose to take the form of a dragon.
