Assets

Assets

Assets are groups of allies or resources that your character has gathered to help in large scale combat or other tasks that fall outside of dungeon delving. They can be gained by rolling on the Guild Table or making allies in the wild. Their primary purpose is to be used as a siege force to enter guarded/fortified locations (typically good rewards and high risk) but they can be used for other tasks such as occupying a dungeon and scouting. Read below for more information.

Siege

Assets are similar to armies in the board game Risk. Your party's total number of assets must meet or exceed the total required to enter certain locations. Your party will be able to enter a location whether or not your assets win in combat. However, any assets that are lost in combat are considered permanently lost.

Example:
Player character Fantasy Doug has an order of paladins under his control from being part of a guild. His current expedition companion, fantasy Sara, was on an adventure where her party made friends with a group of griffon riders. Together they have a total of two combined assets for their session.
They want to get into the cloud giant fortress at the top of Broken Peak mountain. Luckily they have scouted it and have discovered that their two assets are enough to break the defenses in a siege. They then roll following the siege rules to discover if their assets are victorious and live to fight another day, either way the party is able to get into the fortress during the chaos of the siege.

Siege Rules

Roll the dice against the opponent who occupies the opposing territory. Before rolling you must announce the number of dice you intend to roll.

1) You, the attacker, will roll up 1d6 per asset, maximum of 3 at a time.
2) The defender will roll either up to 1d6 per asset, maximum of 2 at a time. Hint: The more dice the defender rolls, the higher their odds of winning, but the more assets they may lose.
3) Compare the highest die each of you rolled. If yours (the attacker's) is higher, the defender loses one asset from the location under attack. But if the defender's die is equal or higher than yours, you lose one asset from the territory you attacked from.
4) If each of you rolled more than one die, now compare the two next-highest dice and repeat the process.

Occupying A Dungeon

Have you and your allies cleared out a fortification? Are you tired of traipsing through the wilderness for a far off location? Well you may want to have at least one of your assets occupy a dungeon. If you have cleared out a map location such as a dungeon or a fort then you can choose to put one of your assets there immediately after (before the next game occurs). Your party can choose to start at that location at the beginning of a session at the cost of 1 week of downtime for every 7 days away it is.

You may want to have more than 1 asset there because the DM might decide to attack it if something looms nearby...

Scouting

Do you want to scout out a map location ahead of time? Any week of downtime that you spend rolling for a guild (guild table or guild business) allows you to use one of your guild assets to scout out an area of wilderness. Pick a location that the group has marked on the map and pick a cardinal direction. Your asset explore one day further from that location and report back what they find. If they find a fortified location then they will also be able to tell how many assets are needed to break its defenses. However, player characters will not gain exploration bonuses for this scouting until they themselves venture into these regions.

Other Ideas?

If you have any other ideas on how to use your assets then just discuss them with the DM and we will see what we can work out!
