Balanos - The Great Oak
Caretaker of Neverwinter Balanos (a.k.a. The Great Oak)
This great and powerful Orc Druid is head of his order and Protector of Never winter Forest. It is said that he once ventured out into the world and saved it from a terrible death curse along with friends he made along the way. During this time however, he discovered a deep loathing of civilisation and so, once the balance of life was returned, he set out for his home forest again. Personal history
Balanos was born during his tribes historical but ultimately failed raid and invasion of the Feywilds, a place they got to by using a dark and ancient artifact a Giant had given them. Being born on this strange Plane of existence, and the fact that he was born with purple cat like eyes, made his tribe abandon him upon their return to the prime material.
Balanos was found in the woods in which he was abandoned and they detected that there was something of the Fey about him. They named him Balanos as this was what they called oak trees and they thought it apt for an Orc. The Dryads, along with the other Fey creatures of the forest, raised him and taught him their ways. This was very difficult for them at times due to his Orc blood rages and constant anger and aggression. They taught him to control this as best they could but the Fey themselves are prone to wanton outbursts and extremes of emotions so there were turbulent times.
During his time with the Dryads and Fey, he learnt about nature and how to communicate and even control it. This would normally take much longer for someone to learn but his connection to the Feywilds seemed to speed the process and make it easier for him.
Deep in the forest there were ancient ruins of a lost civilisation that used to travel to Planes. The Dryads taught Balanos to be ever vigilant and tasked him with watching for hidden threats to the world.
In order for him to best carry out his dutiful watch and fight if the need came, he was taught the ways of the Moon, to use the animal spirits to guide and empower him.
They Dryads and Fey recently felt a great evil and threat cast itself upon the multi-verse and so have sent Balanos out in to the world to find out what is going on and put a stop to it.
