The three kings of Vesperin where usurped by there Arcane advisors all of whom where driven mad by the coming of the spell plague.

In the time before the spell plague the kings of the Vesperin's city states kept Arcane advisors, often called the kings hand, to aid in whatever way the king deemed useful. They were often feared by the Monarchs and it was common policy to keep them diminished in there power. There are cases of the kings hand being kept as a slave.   In the few years before the spell plague each of the three cities appointed a new kings hand. Beldum in Caluant, Vetal Vas in Tantras and Hemitul in Raven's bluff. It was later discovered that these Mages were far more powerful than there predecessors. In the first year of the spell plague all three Mages usurped their Kings using different methods.Their motivation for doing so is unclear but they were soon driven mad by the effects of the spell plague.   The City states, now under the control of the mages, began to wage war on each other. Many people form the surrounding farm land were pressed into military service unwillingly. A chaotic war raged across Vesperin with the mages attempting to annihilate each other and gain dominion over all of Vesperin. As the war progressed the mages sank deeper into madness and their magic became more wild. Their attempts to sway battles often led to massive casualties amongst their own ranks. Beldum discovered that the shadow weave was more stable and formed a pact with Shar, thus becoming a cleric of Shar.   However it is said that in the Battle of Ravens maw Beldum became too bold and in an attempt to cast a powerful spell, stressed the shadow weave to much cuasing it to finally collapse as the magic weave had. His spell failed and all his forces were los tin the process. Cut off from Shar he was defensiless as he was slain by Hemitul.   Meanwhile in Tantras Vetal Vas was assassinated by the Golden Lord Dudanol with help from a Knight from the new folk. This Golden Lord, showing extreme prowess in organisation, stabilized Tantras and marched on the Ravens bluff. The city was easily taken as the Lundinum Knight fought the now comletely insane Hemitul. Both were killed in the ensuing battle thus ending the last mad hand and ending the war.
