Vesperin

Demographics

The rural areas are inhabited almost exclusively by the native human population. The lands are unusually fertile so farmers are rarely poor. Each settlement larger than a Hamlet is mandated to have a member from the order of Lundeen as a permanent resident.   The cities are highly capitalist and have a distinct class structure. There is an exceedingly wealthy minority of merchants and trading company presidents that control the flow of goods and wealth through Vesperin. They only account for about 2 thousand of vesperins population. There is also a middle class of people that serve as employees of the merchants. At the bottom there are the utouchables. The vast majority of the city populations live in slums. These people have no upward mobility in society and scramble over one another to grab at labor jobs to survive. It is practically illegal for one of the untouchables to become a member of the middle class. The cities also have small populations of new folk. They serve as clatterwork merchants, clergy men, spies and envoys.

Government

Vesperin is an oligarchy and a protectorate of the empire of Lundeen. It is ruled by the council of Golden lords. There 6 Golden lords. They are the wealthiest merchants in Vesperin. Each maintain a monoploy on a certain import or export and have their own merchant fleets. As golden lords they are exempt from and have control over the taxation in Vesperin. They spend their waking hours vying for greater control over the country and its trade. Beneath them are vassal-like merchants that perform the governmental duties in exchange for tax exemptions and trade routes. These merchant lords further diligante these duties to there employees as necessary. Few truly care for the proper governance of Vesprin except when its for monetary gain or for there own comfort of living. As a result the country is poorly run everywhere except for the wealthy districts.

Defences

The coasts of Vesperin are patrolled by Admiral Duis'ven's fleet. Each city has an inner wall equipt with clatter work siege weapons. The walls often have makeshift housing bult up against its external walls though which pose a small security risk. The country side have a scattering of castles and forts, but they are either abandoned or maintained by a skeleton crew. This is to stay in accordance with the protectorate treaty. These forts are usually used as political bargaining chips as an owner of a fort is entiled to a standing army which can be levied to the golden lords for tax exemption. Also the owner becomes the lord of the surrounding area from which he may draw his levies.

Industry & Trade

Vesperin serves as a hub of trade between the Moonsea and the sea of stars. They purchase raw materials from the coast of the Moonsea and process them in the cities of Vesperin, but mainly in Caluant. The processed goods are then traded for clatter work from the empire. The clatter work is then sold in the Moonsea. Reasources from The moonsea include: Metal ores exotic fruit furs and silks lumber

Infrastructure

All three cities have these things in common: A dock yard. A walled mercahant district. A Clatter district. Sprawling slums. An industrial ward.

Assets

Between all the merchants and merchant lords in the land Vesperin as a vast fleet of ships. A distinct Lundinum presence means they have highly efficient factories and access to Clatterworks. Though Vesperin, by the protectorate treaty has a very smalll military they can levy troops from the empire if they need to defend themselves

Guilds and Factions

The lack governance in the slums of Vesperin has resulted in a powerful presence of underground activity. Gangs and criminal organizations grow unencumbered in these wild urban jungles. Some specialize in racketeering, running brothels, gambling and hashish and offering protection. Others rather foolishly attempt to steal from the immense wealth of the Merchant lords. These tend to remain rather small as one loose lip could result in a painful death at the hands of a angry merchant. Other organisations serve as tools of espionage for the merchant lords. These are the wealthiest and often the most powerful of criminals.

History

After the war of the mad hands the Golden lord of Tantras untied Vesperin with the help of the New Folk thus forming the country of Vesperin. With the aid of the Knights of New Lundinum came the agreement that Vesperin would become a protectorate of the Empire.

Architecture

The country side is dotted by small buildings made of light gray cobble stones held together by a whiteish plaster material. Wooden support beams are often visible in the walls. Roofs are usually clay tiles but thatch is also common. Farmers mark their plots with low walls of stacked shale rock and are fond of growing hedges where their lands border roads.

Geography

Vesperin Is a roughly rectangular piece of land that is roughly 135 miles long and 110 miles wide. Its is surrounded by the Earthspur and Earthfast mountains except for the weatern front which has a coast on the Sea of Fallen Stars. Much of the coast is sheer coast upon which wealthy merchants and Nobles like to make their Mansions and villas. Near the coast the land scape is dominated by flat farm lands. Further east are large and dense evergreen forests. Many small villigages can be found on the outskirts of these forests. At the foot of the eastern mountain range rolling hills with patches of pine forrest creep down from the peaks.
