Faerie

Brief Overview

Faeries are the second most common intelligent land-dweller after elves. They mostly live in the Faerie Kingdom, which takes up a quarter of the Jade Forest. They are also one of the most powerful beings that live in the Mystical Realm.   Though powerful, iron negates their power and burns their skin. They are also not immortal, despite living for quite a long time.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Faeries have similar body structures to elves and humans with the same number of limbs, four. Faeries also have wings, ranging anywhere from two to six. Faeries also have horns protruding around the crown of their heads. Each horn is roughly the same size as the others. All faeries have ovipositors.

Biological Traits

Faeries are able to alter their size at will, able to shrink down to the size of a penny or grow to match the height of the tallest tree. However, they are not able to maintain an altered size for more than a day.

Genetics and Reproduction

Faeries reproduce through sex, as elves and humans do. They are able to have children with creatures of the same sex or no sex. However, unlike elves and humans, faeries do not give live birth. Faeries lay a couple of rows of pale, pearlescent eggs in a secluded, dark area where the parents will alternate who watches over them. Males have self-lubricating penises.   Gestation period lasts for six months.

Growth Rate & Stages

Faeries age rather slowly. While their infancy lasts only a year, the other stages of life are considerably longer than elves and humans. Their toddler and childhood lasts for about 23 years. Adolescence lasts 43 years. From infancy through adolescence, faeries molt and grow. Their adulthood lasts roughly 4900 years and their seniority for another 33.

Ecology and Habitats

Faeries are highly adaptable and can easily survive in any environment, however it is easier for them to survive in a hot and dry climate. Faeries tend to make buildings out of stone and metal and try to effect the plant and wildlife as little as possible.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Faeries are highly carnivorous and require lots of protein and fat. They also require a fair amount of sugar, which they mostly get from berries and other fruits. Faeries are adept at raising fruit flora and hunt for their meat or slaughter their domesticated animals, except for the fae wolves.

Biological Cycle

During the winter months, faeries shed their wings.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Faeries with more power and greater ability to control their magick are considered more important than other faeries.

Facial characteristics

Faeries have a crown of horns around their heads that protrude from their foreheads and through their hair. Faeries also have long, thin pointed ears. All faeries have dark scleras.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most faeries live in the Faerie Kingdom, which is in the southern part of the Jade Forest, bordering the Primordial Greenwood.

Average Intelligence

Faeries are highly intelligent creatures.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Faeries have naturally high amounts of magick, making them very volatile if they do not learn how to control it. Their senses are also heightened and they can see into the ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Faeries have surnames that are based off of types of trees, and each name is passed down depending on how close the faerie is to a god. Each faerie will also choose their own true name so that only they know what it is and whoever they choose to tell.

Beauty Ideals

Most faeries view lean, muscular bodies as the epitome of perfection, coupled with high, protruding cheekbones and a very evenly spaced and sized crown of horns. The more well-kept the wings are, the better.

Relationship Ideals

Faeries believe that they should mate for life, though can have multiple mates. They look for others that are reliable and strong with great magickal prowess.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The main language of faeries is Fae, though Elven and Tartarian are also very common.

Common Dress Code

Faeries wear loose, comfortable clothes that are easy to move around in for when they are flying. Nearly all forms of clothing have a low cut back, or in the case of armor, small holes that allow the wings to protrude from.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

It is tradition for faeries to marry/mate within the first 13 years of their adulthood. It is quite common for there to be polyamorous relationships.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Faeries tend to keep mostly to themselves. However, they are very likely to work with fae wolves, viewing them as the only creature that is on their level aside from gods. They view other creatures as inferior. Faeries are known to work with daemons and goblins.   Faeries will rarely mate with other creatures, usually Mumarian elves or daemons, as well as other creatures with great magick.
Lifespan
5000 years
Average Height
Variable, normally 6'0"-6'5"
Average Physique
Faeries tend to be fit, as that fits the ideal for their species, and it allows ease when flying. Most wings nearly touch the ground when they walk.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
All faeries have tattoo-like markings on their bodies. Markings are unique to each faerie and swirl around. The most common place for faerie markings is the upper torso, however they can be located anywhere on the body. Faeries tend to have tinted, pearlescent skin. The tints come in any shade of purple, red, green, and blue.
