New Jerusalem

New Jerusalem is a LDS controlled settlement, built on the ruins of the destroyed pre-holocaust town of Salt Lake City. It is seen as the capital of the Mormon faith in the post-apocalyptic world, and is the biggest city in its region.

History

In the 21st century, as war ran on and nuclear war seemed imminent, numerous groups, public, private, and religious alike began building underground bunkers, in preparation for the possibility of Nuclear War. The Church of Latter Day Saints, colloquially known as the Mormons, where one of these groups. The leader of the church at the time constructed a large vault into the side of a mountain, so that if Armageddon would come, his people, and his religion, would survive. And he succeeded.   As the bombs rained down on the surface, almost 1,000 LDS practitioners were able to reach the safety of the shelter. There, they’d go about their ways of praying, reading scripture, and worshipping for years in safety. When they finally emerged, they’d use their resources to come together and build a city in the image of the ancient lands of Israel; and fittingly, they’d dub their grand city New Jerusalem. This city would be surrounded by high stone walls, and based around the Mormon principles of modesty, kindness, brotherly-love, and faith.   Eventually the Mormons would settle farther, creating the neighboring communities of New Canaan to the north and New Bethlehem to the south. As their population grew, some of the population would break off, setting out to create their own communities such as Damascus and Jericho over the years. Still, the Mormon cities would stay strong, with New Jerusalem alone being the biggest city in the entire local region. The Mormons are extremely protective of their holy city, defending it furiously. Traders are usually always welcome, as long as they follow Mormon custom, but tribals are often denied access into the city, showing that the city of the Latter Day Saints is not completely free of the social ills of the world.
