Whitestone
The beautiful snowy city of Whitestone. This is where the Misfits came to this world of Exandria through planar magic and the help of a friendly (or so we thought) druid. We came here on a search for a material called white-stone or residuum which was needed to repair an old magical forge. We found out that there was no white-stone on where we were in Feirun, but the druid (Reydoth) stated that he knew a place on a different plane that had a surplus of it and that he could get us there if he could have some of the money from the magical item profits.
Alas, we end up just outside of Whitestone. After fighting planar spiders, we arrive in town to get a meeting with the leaders. Turns out the leaders are busy at the moment, but they can speak with us in the morning. Having nothing better to do, we raced to the first bar we find called The Journey's End (then get kicked out for being "too much..."- their loss).
We then find another bar called the Meadery with a dwarf bartender named Dendren. After drinking our fill and trying to find our way back to the inn, we see a symbol (drawing in notes) on a door. It is the marker for a secret fight club call the The Brawler's League. We find out that the next fight is two days from now and that the password is "strongjaw."
Showing up to Castle Whitestone Bernard the Butler led us to meet with three of the council members: Joana Weaver, Cassandra De Rolo , and Merla Goodbarrel. Residuum is one of the more expensive materials and the power that comes with having residuum needs to be monitored. They stated that if we proved ourselves that we would be able to mine the required residuum. There as a group of soldiers that went into the underdark and had yet to return despite leaving over three weeks. The council asked if we could go into the abandoned mines, bring back the soldiers or their bodies, see what is causing the creatures to run, and to deal with it. They supply us with two guards (Sonia and Michael) that take us to the mines and four healing potions.
While some people were at the meeting with the council, others (Castle and River) were exploring the city. River tried to make some money by playing the new panflute she got at Lutes and Lyres. She gave Castle a sign to hold and when he held it up, it was upside down. They were near the city walls when they heard a woman calling out for help. Her boyfriend/husband had been captured by gnolls. The party found the man with a group of four gnolls, took them out, and followed tracks further into the forest to find out if there were more than just the four. There were.. a lot and they decided to fight them until they decided to run for their lives getting out by the skin of their teeth.
We decided to try to find a job to kill the group of gnolls. We went to the barracks and spoke to a higher ranking officer named Ken. He explained that there was an incident at the mine and gnolls and other creatures coming up from the underdark. He mentioned that there had been more reports as of late as well. We take the job to investigate.
That evening, we went to the the fight and give the password. There was a 100gp entry and there is no magic allowed in the fight. There was a gambling table in the corner. Castle entered the fight and won the championship. We celebrated at The Journey's End, because now we're cool again. Thanks, Castle!
The next morning, the party heads off to the mines with Michael and Sonia. The mine is about 30 miles to the southeast of the city and takes about a day and a few hours of travel with a mix of Castle's pure innocent jolly vibes and the use of River's conjure animals (horses) spell. When we arrive at the mines there are gnolls and bugbears. Sonia and Michael help to fight them off and then head on their merry way.
Entering the cave we come to the first room. There were obvious signs of fighting: scuffmarks on the ground, dried blood splattered in the dirt and on the walls. After searching the area, we found the body of a soldier with the Pale Guard symbol on his lapel. We hide the body to grab on the way out of the mines. After our first day of travel through the mines, we take a long rest. Sarabi has a terrible dream related to the Glass Staff.
Further into the mine, we found another member of Pale Guard as well as a few Fish Boys dead splayed on the ground. This clearly went very well for that Pale Guard battalion. In investigating this tunnel, we see that the Fish Boys have a few bullet wounds on them and that the Pale Guard soldiers all had pistols (not that the party fully understands what a gun is).
We find two entry ways into the underdark. One seems to be a burrowed hole from some very large creature and the other seems to be a large explosion with black powder. As the party enters the underdark and continues to follow the tunnels, there are bodies scattered throughout the tunnels. Several human Pale Guard soldiers and Fish Boy bodies littered the grounds. The farther we got we began to see a different species of bodies on the ground with bullet holes in them. They look like dwarves, but shorter and with almost transparent white skin called Duergar.
After a nasty fight with a goliath and his friends that popped out from behind a broken rock and forcing a duergar (Kyle) to guides us through the tunnels, we found the rest of the Pale Guard battalion that had survived. Their leader, Captain Vesper De Rolo, introduced to his remaining unit. All human, there were three survivors named Kira, Brendan, and Ted, though Vesper mentioned that one member is still missing. The captain sends the rest of his troops back to the surface and back to Whitestone. He was going to journey with us farther into the underdark to find Fenton, the last member of his party, dead or alive.
Freshly (short) rested, the party and Vesper De Rolo traveled deeper through the underdark until we came to a strange purple veil and on the other side is a small camp. After we realized that the veil is a barrier blocking out magic (AKA Purple Wall of Doom), we walked through. Propped up against a wall, we saw an unconscious Fenton. Having dealt with the owner's of the camp swiftly (a few bugbears), Vesper decided to take Fenton to safety while we continued on to discover the cause of the underdark migration.
Using Kyle as our guide, the Misfits ventured further into the the underdark. They felt the temperature rising quickly in the tunnels. It was getting hotter and hotter and they could see light coming from just up ahead. When they turned the corner they found a lava river with a decrepit stone bridge going across. They were likely all light enough to cross it save for potentially Atheo, but as they started to cross the bridge, small lizards seemingly engulfed in flames came out of the lava and started attacking. The band of them fought well, but Nox did fall unconscious before healing was able to mend his wounds (?)
That night as they rested, they each had strange dreams. [I am a dummy and only wrote down River's but if you have your character's dreams and want them added- send them to me] River dreamt of the gnome named Jack that took her in and showed her that she was meant for better things. She saw their home that was always to small for her, but she was older than she was when she dreamt it. She dreamt of a reunion between the two of them and an exchange of drinking stories of their time apart. When she awoke, she felt it a certainty that it be her future. The others though having dreamt of their own life, felt quite the same. Those dreams were a part of their timeline whether that be a time that was, a potential timeline or something guaranteed to happen.
Not long after the group set out, Kyle, looking panicked, said that he could go no further, but what they were looking for was just around the corner. The group walked around the bend and found 3 (?) large, ancient blue gemstone dragons. After having a conversation about why the group was there the eldest of the dragons, Kalleblum, explained, that they had been woken up from the slumber by a red dragonborn looking for information in regards to the timeline, both in the future and the past and that it had something to do with Tiamat. He further explained that once woken up, gemstone dragons have a field around them that disrupts the dreams of the creatures around them, likely driving the underdark residents to the surface. The only way to get them back into their hibernation would be to feed them a powerful magical object. Turns out, the group had in their possession a very powerful talisman. It was filled with dark magic, so dark they were unable to touch it. The group had been given this talisman by their trainer and told to destroy it, but never to touch it to their skin. The dragon said thank you for the gift, but best not to consume the item before they leave. Before they left, River asked the dragon if he could tell her what race she was and this is where she found out she was half water gin and half elven (traits of a water genasi). Then they saw their way back towards Kyle.
The crew made it approximately 100 yards from where the dragons layed before they heard a loud BOOM, shaking all of the tunnels sending a soundwave outwards. The group turned back, but then heard yells and screams coming up behind them in the tunnels. They had to run for it or get trampled. Kyle said he knew a shortcut up to the surface and after dodging into this tunnel and that, we found ourselves in a spiral stone staircase going up, seemingly forever. Apparently, the screams and yells knew about this staircase too. Gathering that that they were the Drow people of the underdark, and that they were gaining on us given the rise in the sound. The party seemed to be doing well in terms of keeping pace with one another aside from the large bulky minotaur in the party, Atheo . Using some quick thinking, he decided to launch a molotov cocktail (a bomb of his own creation- so he'll tell you) and tossed it behind him collapsing the staircase behind him. The stone crumbled and fell behind him crushing everyone in the staircase and he barely got through the door frame at the top before it fell out from under his feet. The group stared in disbelief of the destruction and Kyle stared at the loss of everyone he had ever known. The rest of the exit of the cave consisted of silent walking and at the mouth of the cave, Kyle left without a word.
[Surprisingly little notes regarding the blue gemstone dragons. This is pretty much what I can remember after two years. If you have notes that you want to share, let me at 'em]
Somehow the news got to Whitestone faster than we did and when we approached the Council, they were less than pleased with the fact that their trade relationship with the Drow was now eliminated. The firmly requested that we leave the city and not return, but on the way out Lady De Rolo stopped us and stated that she believes she knows who the red dragonborne is. His name is Arkahn and having known him in the past, he can't be up to anything positive. She told us that she might be able to talk the council into letting us return to the city should we discover his plans and disrupt them. He was recently known to have been in Kymal with a crew just prior to a large robbery that occurred at a Myriad owned casino there. We told her not to worry and that we would succeed in her request.
BUUUUTTTTTT, before we go there is a carnival tent (with timelord tech) in Dawnfather Square that has games where we could win things, so we (Nox, River, Sarabi, and Castle) played to see what would happen. We all did one on one fights with some sort of magical creature and if we wont within the timeframe given by Arty (owner of said tent), there was a prize involved. I won two items: a scroll of canon burst and a card of wonder (which could turn the nearest creature to me into a frog until I kiss it).
We were off the next morning.
