Jetsam

Village at the base of the Shara Steppes that floats on the Sea of Sand .

Government

Jetsam is ruled by the Jetsam Congress who create and enforce their laws.

Industry & Trade

Jetsam serves as the market for @hu to sell what they catch and to obtain water. As the biggest village on the coast of the Steppes, any trade to the other villages from above goes through the market here.

Infrastructure

The village itself is a mass of floating docks dotted with balloons that reduce weight enough to let it float. Bridges link the platforms together in rigid piers and wharfs.    The only access to the village is the winding trail leading up into the Steppes which is flanked by a large aqueduct to feed the village water.   Large chains secure the docks to the Steppes, allowing some movement but keeps them from moving.   Small floating farms serve as the only agriculture for the residents of Jetsam, most of their food come from the Hunter Ships.

Districts

The Hunter's District

The older hunter families have open aired, veranda style houses next to the slip that their Hunting Ships  berths in. These families are wealthy enough to have multiple docks as their own property and privacy to conduct business.

The Floating Gardens

The Gardens provide most food, other than meat, for the villagers. The Gardens require multiple docks with no houses on them, the bridges connecting them are not as robust as those that support trade wagons and heavy foot traffic. Overseers usually have veranda style houses overlooking their fields, but they are smaller and more modest than the Hunter's District houses.

The Market

Front and center to the only road leading up to the Steppes, The Market is the first thing most visitors experience when they visit Jetsam. Open aired stalls line either side of the massive street with some merchants setting up shop on the median. The merchants closest to the trail usually sell clothing and tools in the style of the hunters, past them are the hunter families offering to charter their ships for wealthy risktakers looking for sport. At the far end of the market are the butchers and vegetable vendors, stalls most frequented by locals.

Guilds and Factions

Hunter's Guild

The Hunter's Guild offers brave individuals the chance to enlist on hunter ships and catch massive beasts on the Sea of Sand. Most hunter ships are run by families and getting on one of those requires a reputation and experience. The Hunter's Guild offers to teach new hunters and always has openings for replacements.

Architecture

Wooden houses, rarely more than one story tall. Most buildings are fighting for space on the floating docks. Alleys are narrow between houses, clothing lines cross the gaps between docks and are strung from house to house. The main streets have room for merchant carts, but dire goats are too heavy to bring across bridges. Some wealthier hunter families or those who tend the floating fields have veranda style, open aired houses overlooking their slips or fields.

Climate

Hot and arid, during the day, the heat beats relentlessly against the docks. Depending on the time of day or month, the Steppes provide cool shade over most of the village.
