The Settlement of Guilds

The Settlement of Guilds — Overview

The Settlement of Guilds (or The Guild) is Evonire's second largest metropolis, just underneath Corellon. The Settlement of Guilds works as a mishmash of Guilds, where each town or village within its territory has its own speciality. Like every city, The Guild has its own currency, government system, law enforcement, and culture. This is where the party currently is.

Political System

A council system. The Settlement of Guilds is run by a council of representatives from the most prominent guilds that keep tabs on their subsets. (Ex: the Alchemical Guild represents the Baker's Guild, or the Art Guild represents the Painter's Guild). People tend to live normally within their settlements, although there is a superiority complex among the higher Guilds. Surprisingly, the inside of The Settlement of Guilds is peaceful under the council, and the different guilds collaborate like a well-oiled machine if they need to, partly because they’re REASONABLE people who know the value of community.   However, rising tensions means that the other part of keeping peace comes from the threat of mutually assured destruction. They became so big because all the guilds need a bunch of supplies from ports, and have strict policies within the city, agreed on by the council, and anyone that breaks the peace is immediately dead. Like Corellon, the Settlement of Guilds has a much tighter hold on the inner cities than the outer cities, resulting in some corruption in the outer parts of their territory despite the council's best efforts.

Relations and Reputation

As the fastest-developing city in Evonire, this puts them at odds with Corellon and Morfester. Their sudden high status challenges Corellon's snootiness. They overtook Morfester in population, territory, and economic status, which was a jab to Morfester's pride. Although, The Guild has very prominent, stable trade with them. Unlike Morfester, most of Corellon, especially the higher class, believes that the Settlement of Guilds's success was completely by accident and that their political system must be a mess. (It is not, in fact, a mess.)   A common rumor in Corellon is that the mafia guild has a strong hold on the council members, but no one has been able to confirm or deny it.

Known Settlements

Settlements have a lot of geographical significance. A settlement underground may specialize in work with precious stones, or one in the woods may be a Nature Guild, etc.   MurowaA swampy town that specializes in poisons, subset of the Alchemical Guild. Trade in Murowa is becoming stilted.   Drear — The meeting place for the council of the Guild, and the current Mafia Settlement. Plenty of roads going in and out. The dual use of the city makes people think that the Mafia Guild controls the representatives.   Mayforth — Specifically, the circus. One of the largest guild settlements, an extremely popular inner city—a cornerstone of The Guild's culture. Always awake, always alive, they have year-round festivals and celebrations. Mayforth primarily specializes in acrobatics, but includes other performance guilds like martial arts, magic (spec: "fake party tricks" magic), and all-around party-planning. Anyone who's spent a good bit of time in the Settlement of Guilds knows that like any circus, Mayforth is a good place to find runaways and rejects—or a good place to hide from the authorities.   Unnamed Port City — The party was directed to an unnamed port city by the old mushroom spirit. Like Murowa, it's near the outside of the Settlement of Guilds territory, but there is no information outside of its possible existence.
