The Silver Palace

The Silver Palace is the headquarters of the Merchant's Guild. While the King's Merchant's Council has no official power over the Guild, most members of the Council have offices on the top floor of the building.

The Exterior

The structure is built in the Bledavian architecture: straight lines, right angles, painted white with the exterior scaffolding integrated into the walls. It is three stories tall with a steeply slanted roof of slate. In the courtyard behind the Silver Palace is a small garden and pond. This was gifted to the Guild by King Elish when he took the throne in in 189FU. Gardeners from the Mytheran Palace come there every day to tend to it.

The Interior

The ground floor is where most of the daily business of the Guild. The busiest area is the Registration Office where hundreds of prospecting merchants go to apply for the right to trade. The Reception is where raw and stamped coin is exchanged by registered merchants. All goods exchanged at the Reception is brought to the third floor vaults for storage. The Gatewatch have scribe offices next to the Reception where certifications for importation and exportation of restricted goods are crafted and sold.   The Great Hall is located on the second floor. It is the place where guild members go to discuss and debate guild-related problems. There are benches for three hundred people but there are rarely more than sixty at any one time. Prominent Guild Members may have offices next to the Hall. The second floor has a large space where members of the Scribes' Guild can work to make copies, officiate records, and make Scrolls of Empowerment.   The top floor of the Silver Palace houses the Vault, Archives and honorary offices for the Merchant's Council. Few ever see this area but it is rumoured to be as luxuriously decorated as the Mytheran Palace of the King.

Silver Lamps

The building was originally called the Merchant's Palace but the name changed in 170FU. It is now called "Silver" for the use of silver lamps everywhere. The lamps were made by a formerly unknown silversmith who earned his fame by crafting ten thousand lamps and gifting them to the Merchant's Guild. Because of these lamps, this is one of the few official buildings who use firelight in place of light crystals.
