Age Quivers

Age Quivers mostly affect the aged population. It manifests as an uncontrollable trembling of the limbs and seriously inhibits their ability to perform every day tasks.

Cause

The commonly believed cause is old age, but modern Practitioners of Healing who deny this since it does not affect all old people. Some of these Practitioners claim that prolonged exposure to bedbugs is responsible, while other say that it is a negative reaction to the natural build up of aether in the skull over time.

Symptoms

The quivers usually begins as a trembling in the hands which gradually, over years, turns into shaking. Other symptoms include lethargy, headaches, weakness in the joints, slurring speech, blurred sight, and incontinence.

Prognosis

The condition normally begins after the age of forty as a gentle quiver in the hands, followed by an onset of lethargy. A certain clumsiness develops on account of the progression where the joints loose their strength and the shaking grows more intense. Within five years, most can no longer complete simple tasks such has hold an implement or drink soup from a bowl without spilling. Within seven years most can no longer walk more than a few paces with help.

Cure

There are two found cures to this condition, developed with the last ten years. The first is a alchemical solution containing cinnabar and oil from the liver of the blurb fish, amongst other ingredients. If the concoction is taken daily for six weeks, the trembling will be reduced. If the treatment is continued, then the condition will not progress any further. The second, and more affordable option to the cure is not always successful. The cure involves a surgery where a small incision is made in the scalp on top of the head. A small satchel of powdered cinnabar is inserted under the skin, which is sutured and treated with zinc-paste. This one is advocated by the Practitioners who believe that the condition is caused by the collection of aether inside the skull. The high death rate of patients is dismissed as a result of their poverty, rather than the treatment.
