Greenspire

Greenspire was a massive city and the capital of the Kingdom of Krog. It was located on the southern coast of the Inselmoor and was where many of the nobles and heads of government lived and fulfilled their roles. Trade was a major feature of this city, and the wealthy often chose to live in this city to maintain influence and power.   Those who lived in Greenspire were no strangers to luxury and high standards of living. While most of the city was wealthy and well-maintained, pockets of the city existed in a state of disrepair. Thousands of peasants hoped that they'd get lucky and join the ranks of the higher class.

Description

The majority of political and government work took place in Greenspire. The King, government figureheads, and most of the nobility lived in this city. Like Rohrbruck, Greenspire had a massive harbor dedicated to exporting and importing goods, as Krog was unable to receive shipments by land.   Greenspire shares the name of the capital and residence of the royal family. A towering monolith of green-hued stone that gave the city its name. It is a large keep with a single upward-thrusting blade with is base carved with reliefs of Kroggish kings and conquests. No matter how many times it is scraped, burned, salted, or purged by magic, vines of rich green continued to crawl along its surface. The leaves stay vibrant year-round, defying both frost and drought. Entire sections of the tower have been scrubbed clean by royal edict, only for the growth to return within days. Common folk saw this as a sign: that either the land itself remembers, that power cannot choke out life forever, or that something older than kinds still dwells within the stone.

Culture

While nobles toasted in sky-bridged estates and gold-leafed galleries, the shadow of prosperity leaves thousands in poverty. Entire districts known as the Cradle Rows and Slaglane served as bitter reminders of the disparity between promise and reality. Peasants lined up daily for work, bread, or a chance to serve in the military, hoping for a better life.

Notable Locations

Blutstrom Harbor

Greenspire's harbor that was once the site of a major battle during the Kroggish Civil War.

Cradle Rows and Slaglane

Large districts of poorer residents. Peasants worked day in and day out to make ends meet.
  • Myrr's Fountain: A dry, cracked well that residents of the Cradle Rows would throw coins into hoping for a better life. The coins disappeared every evening.
  • Red Kiln: A ruined brickyard where shady business was done in Slaglane.

Elderwyck, Old Boughs, and Silverthane

Medium-sized districts for nobility and wealthy merchants.
  • The Mirror Steps: A set of cascading stairs that reflected light like silver located in Elderwyck. Many nobles hosted seasonal gatherings here. Commoners were forbidden to ascend and was punishable by flogging.
  • The Old Oak: An ancient petrified tree preserved in the Old Boughs. It was a place for oaths, peace offerings, and private duels. It is said that it was a remnant or pre-Krog times and may be from the era of the Old Gods.
