Plauge doctor

Plague Doctor is a status of both great merit and importance and is considered a higher honor then a night hood. They are committed to studding and fighting lethal disease. when a pandemic or plague strikes a town they travel there and act as doctors law enforcement and judge during times of great peril so if they tell you to do something its law. when the country isn't in peril they studies make notes and work on prevention methods some are hired as private doctors for the wealthy.

Career

Qualifications

A knowledge of medicine and law, combat able to deal with pathogens that have physical manifestations or cause rage in patients as well as to avoid threat from mercenaries and crooks. They also have to be capable to deal with criminals who wish to take advantage of a cities poor situation.

Career Progression

plague doctors travel either solo or with a small group they work as a team but in certain cases they are in said teams for long enough a natural hierarchy forms or is decided on. apart from that progression too become a plague doctor is more difficult you have to be trusted by a powerful noble or many less powerful ones and already trained in medicine. once they are nominated they are trained in politics and governing small cities along side combat both martial and magical. they are then garnished the Title of Plague Doctor.

Payment & Reimbursement

While acting as ruler of plagued cities they can charge taxes for medical supplies food and wages. out side of this time as sages they rely on selling there knowledge or gathering enough wealth from plague times to sustain themselves. others are paid by sick nobles and the wealthy as highly skilled doctors. other than money the reward of temporary land ownership and a honorary status is appeal enough for most.

Other Benefits

They receive much fame from saving towns from brutal plagues but they keep there face covered most of the time with masks so only names are remembered. it is a highly respected position many nobles and cities owe them favors and the wealth made along the way can be enough to live a safe life retiring early.

Perception

Purpose

To stop magical and non magical plagues bringing down settlements and cities allowing for the country to flourish. They also provide a beacon of hope for the sick and poor during desperate times.

Social Status

They are considered some of the best trained medical professionals and governors. They are said to have hearts of gold but also a symbol of hope for the public. by the wealthy nobles there are considered equals and honorable knights of the country.

Demographics

a very small percentage. in Mevius there is about 130 Plague doctor's many of which are nonactive for the most part.

History

Originally a less noble position but as cities got larger and plagues got more common and more deadly more things where added to the requirements and more power given to them.

Surgical tools, scribes tools, scales medical tools for experimentation and plague masks many gloves and at least two large cloaks which can be easily cleaned, they will also have some kind of weapon or spell focus and possibly armour.

papper and ink and medical books when studding and the occasional sample and medical supplies .   Medicine and gold/currency when in control of a city they may also need documents on the town and information about the public and the spread of the disease.
