'The Golden Ones'

Aurei are a subset of Humans distinguished by a mutation, a small section of their bone structure has a coating of Gold. The coating leaves the surrounding area, including the skin, with a golden hue providing their nickname the ‘Golden Ones’. This feature varies from person to person, with the gold manifesting in different shapes, sizes, and locations across their skeletal framework. As a result, every Aurei is a one-of-a-kind individual. Cuts on Aurei, if deep enough, scar with a golden hue, making them more distinctive with age.

Abilities:

From birth, Aurei’s gold has a mysterious enchantment, imbuing each individual with unique abilities that evolve as they grow older. These powers are like a hidden reservoir, fluctuating in strength and intensity with time. To unlock their full potential, Aurei engage in rigorous study and practice, often collaborating with skilled Alchemists who guide them in harnessing and refining their innate gifts.

Aurei can be enhanced further by undergoing a process known as 'Coating' performed by an Alchemist, which grants them new abilities. This process is much safer for Aurei than for humans, possibly due to reasons that remain unclear; it is speculated that the gold present in Aurei from birth helps their bodies cope with these enchantments. However, despite the relative safety of Coating for Aurei, undergoing additional enhancements increases their risk of developing Gold Hyperplasia, a condition that leads to a slow and painful death.
